advice for young producers

im a old person and i was just thinking of some stuff and you know how opinionated we are
im not stup enuf to want to think i have insight all into you tingting so don-t worry about going all that, but
one thing you don't lik to hear from your vst developer is for the past time (well all of it, ever) i've bene coming to the realisation that im sick of all this bloody music. its a natural thing in the world to then be a part of it in the hopes of making something sensible. and tats my generation "musically" as well, accredited representation of refusal, eg. punk.
but im also a old person and ive had some time to watch what happens with generations of humans some. intergenerational stress happens with some modulation of conventions. same as ai coding, we like to think it is evolving toward a desirable solution but it be teh happen one way or the other.
and inculcated or no, we obviously observe this in musical convention, to the extent that popular music is in some context definitively contemporary.
whether you reject the idea or no, some mechanisms may restrain the evolution of convention "intergenerationally" (or "over time", "over duration") so that eg. it is "profitable" or whatever to maintain the same mechanisms of distribution, how music is used, legislated et al.
but here's what i'm saying.
i really wouldn't be surprised to see, as culture continues to "proceed", a serious change in tone in the role music has in our daily experiential lives. i seriously think there's a good chance that, despite all attempts to propogate behaviours in subsequent generations, the social organism will gradually reject eg. the habituation of listening to records. scof yue mei, s'cof yue mei. and culture in itself is volatile enough to consider that behaviours will change considerably in time spans we may observe.
a lot of young (or new? or just in general) producers seem to cut their chops (as i did when i obtained a jv1010!) emulating genres. all these crazy hobbyist toy genres. i've been using online music communities since.. around 1997 and you know the sort of pedestrian feel you often get with 'cutting my chops' recordings. normals have changed.
my advice is, make shorter recordings. don't fluff your track out to a commercial length in order to achieve 'recordable' status. not ever. just contain your exercise to the core of the ideas.
you can appreciate the difference in modalities between artifacts experientially. one is succinct, meaningful, substantial, the other makes you feel lik ur being mikled lik a cow. so at least, by doing it teh one way lik i say you shud, u contribute to a future that you won't despise. it aslo mak control what you do fisrt.

This. I've said this since my 20s - or maybe earlier. It is possible to use a chorus only once in a song and not to repeat a hook. Hold interest with shorter tracks and force the user to replay. However, I think a distinction should be made between music conveying ideas in the form of songs and functional music, such as dance music or anything to set a mood. For example, functional music, such as that to place the listener in a state of trance needs to maintain that state and therefore, last for a longer time. Ritual music needs to last the duration of the ritual.

it's possible to make the form suit the content and write an authentic melody rather than obey some received command regarding form.
It may be that the notions of verse, chorus, prechorus, bridge, intro, outchorus make something that more people recognize but it may also be an audience is responding on a deeper level to an authentic expression some of the time. Trying to game it with your particular reshuffling the deck of cookie-cutter prescriptions, or the tactic of repeating the hook 1024 times, you may just have expected the cart to pull your horse. OR, it makes sense organically. There is no rule.

Or stop equating the industrial concept of production with the creativity of art. That said, I do think industrial concepts can easily be applied to functional music - such as dance music. well, it tends to follow a stamp, a mold, a cookie cutter guaranteeing uniformity. I don't get the dance part, there is a certain sort of person who needs to have 4-on-the-floor established before they fake like their bodies are responding to tha music, there is almost no music. pretty robotic already.
