Good choice! I love the G2. Though I thought it sounded great the minute I pulled it from the box, I was initially sceptical of buying it. After all, I aint exactly short on analogue in my studio (and I had version 1). Since then, hardly a track has gone by without me reaching for the G2. A great machine that seems well suited to stacking against the other stuff. The leads always cut through, the pads always warm up. Fantastic sequencers, too. One of the best things about the G2 (and the deciding factor in my buying it) is that the sequencer modules all can work as MIDI controllers for your outboard gear (or VSTs!). It's easy to whip up massive, swirling, Tangerine Dream sequencery using those sequencers. Plus, the onboard effects processing is good, and makes for a nice extra set of delays in a pinch!

??? They should definitely be available in the UK because I tested a g2x, not a g2 and that's all the way down here...whyterabbyt wrote:So when's the G2X actually shipping then?

And how long did it take for the big shit-eatin' grin to be wiped off my face after I started playing with the G2?Scot Solida wrote:Good choice! I love the G2. Though I thought it sounded great the minute I pulled it from the box, I was initially sceptical of buying it.
Steve, how come you're not trying to order from the US? Looking at the $2599 pricetag here, isn't it cheaper even with import taxes, or is it about break even?

Niether Digital Village nor Turnkey nor thomann.de have them on their website. Generally that's my touchstone for availability...

ahhhhhh...you're making me go for the G2 instead of the dotcom modular for the same reasons (shipping charges, import, etc...)
congrats!

it works out as much the same mate, i would end up paying a big shipping bill (avg seems to be about $100-150) + and approximate 9% import duty (looked it up on a website so it might be wrong but if i am it'll be highterDevonB wrote:And how long did it take for the big shit-eatin' grin to be wiped off my face after I started playing with the G2?Scot Solida wrote:Good choice! really glad you said that, i appreciate the help you gave me when i was looking for a real modular but the us-uk thing just priced me out of that market.Scot Solida wrote:Good choice
this would definately appear to be a more cost effective way of spending my money and i don't think i've heard anyone say a bad word about it
cheers,

NICE.
I'm trying to decide between the rack and the basic keyboard. I was all ready for the rack until I saw the VSTi controller abilities of the keyboard.

All I need to be happy is one more VSTi.

As you seem to have both the Nord Modular and the G2, would you say there is a huge difference in the basic sound?Scot Solida wrote:Good choice! I love the G2. I ask because I have the Nord Modular but don't use it too often as I don't really like the sound - kind of too clean for my taste. On the other hand, for some strange reason I love the sound of my Nord Lead.
How does the G2 compare?

I sold the old version, so I can't make a direct comparison anymore, but the new version certainly sounds a bit different. Maybe more like the sound of the Nord Lead 3. As with the old one, it can be very clean, but is fairly easy to "dirty up" using various modules. The sound quality is hard to judge when comparing to the old one, because there is a lot more going on here (new PM and FM modules, as well as "different" versions of old oscillators). Do keep in mind that any patches you made on the older version will not work on this one...
Overall, I find the G2's sound to be a bit cleaner than the real analogues I have, but it seems to have a "thickness" and lushness about it (even with the fx turned off).

I will keep that in mind when I write the advertising text for selling it on eBay!Scot Solida wrote:Do keep in mind that any patches you made on the older version will not work on this one...![]()
That's interesting, since thickness and lushness was about what I was missing from the old one.Scot Solida wrote:Overall, I find the G2's sound to be a bit cleaner than the real analogues I have, but it seems to have a "thickness" and lushness about it (even with the fx turned off).
Thanks for your hints!
