so the modulator out of the grid device can reach/set every bluish control on the picture but it has to be the top element of the particular device tree (the right top device on the picture is the/a Modulator Out)
Okay, thanks a lot for the answer.

You can already do that with the Modulators (Version 2). Insert them into the devices and go crazy :hihi:

I ran into an issue with this simple test setup:
bw.jpg
All it's supposed to do is play short notes while transport is running. But when I stop transport, sometimes it stops playing like it should, while other times the last played note just hangs.

Since it's inconsistent I think this might be a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

I have tested your setup but I didn't have a problem when I activated/deactivated both the Transport and the Gates. I did so with the updated version 3.0.1, so I don't know if it is related.

I own Bitwig. I really do like it but no way does it deserver a 10 out of 10. Personally there are too many weird issues with eh UI, too many inconsistencies, and just plain missing features. So imo the "review" was either a paid for ad, or the reviewer never bothered to actually use the software to make music. Probably played around with Grid and called it a day. But then again its MusicTech and in general they are crap.
Studio One // Bitwig // Logic Pro X // Ableton 11 // Reason 11 // FLStudio // MPC // Force // Maschine

^^^ if they able to iron out the absence of the "plain missing features" then BWS will be unbeatable, btw
Lion will be released in the next month and its feature set is quite close to the Grid one and can be used in any DAW

ps. yepp the score of BWS is still superlow, https://www.admiralbumblebee.com/DAW-Chart.html so it's still a highly specialized "DAW", btw. I've tried Waveform 10 yesterday and it's quite close to a useable one

I agree it is a highly specialized "DAW" currently, as is 'Live', but as a 'specialised' DAW, for the cost, and using Live as a reference, I would probably give it 9.5/10....as a normal linear DAW probably only gets 7/10 in its current state (that's still higher than I would give Live)

If they now work on those less specialised features and get that number up it will start to give some other less specialised DAWS a run for the money. I think they have done it the right way around, Reaper has made it less viable for any new company to enter the standard DAW Market as it is so cheap (and pretty good). Studio One, Cubase etc have so many years development I cant see anyone 'launching' a new DAW that would compete from day 1.

The specialist/niche market seems to be the only one that it open, and LIVE had a monopoly for quite some time on the session/clip based DAW it makes sense to take a small part of their market and perhaps carve out a new market with CV/MPE/Grid etc amongst the more experimental composers and sound designers (and I suspect the CV stuff has attracted a lot of the modular/euro crowd like me which is why LIVE is now copying BITWIG launching built in CV tools...Bigwig as a competitor for Live is good for everyone!

I have made a video about the issue:

This is 3.0.1 running in demo mode. All I'm doing in the video is pressing the space bar to start/stop playback.

I couldn't replicate it! Anyway, I have saved the preset and attach it here. I think you can open it in the Demo mode, but I just didn't connect the Gate (with the yellow cable) because as soon as I connect it it begins to sound. There is no effect if I turn on play on or off like you did in the video unless i missed something. So, try the preset (zipped file) and tell me if it is the same one as you did.

There are a few important differences:
  1. Device phase for the Gates device (Top left Ø icon) should be off so it's not running automatically, making it controlled by the Transport device
  2. On the Transport device, 'Free-run when stopped' should be disabled in the Inspector panel or it will keep running if Bitwig transport is stopped
  3. All steps in the Gates device should be filled, because if you stop playback when there's no note playing it can not produce a hanging note.

Post

oh ok. It seems when you stop it sometimes it got stuck, like a sticky note. I have experienced this in some synths in the past when using Arpeggios especially.
I don't know really if it is a bug. Maybe it is better to post it in the Bitwig forum so you get a better feedback.
