I like to use pitch and frequency shifting as a creative effect, so I'm compiling a list of the notable pitch shifting plugins on the creative end of the spectrum:
  • zPlane Elastique Pitch
  • Unfiltered Audio Fault
  • Soundtoys Little Altar Boy
  • Freakshow Industries Dumpster Fire
  • Kilohearts Pitch Shifter
  • DMG Audio PitchFunk
  • Audio Damage Discord4
  • Zynaptiq Pitchmap
  • Melda MTransformer
  • IRCAMAX 1
I'd love to hear your thoughts on any of these, how you use them, what I'm missing, etc.

Fault is probably my most used out of these, simply because of the amount of options at hand, particularly the ability to switch it to mid/side mode.

Psp hertzrider http://www.pspaudioware.com/plugins/mul ... ertzrider/

I use it for pitch rises, vibratos and tuning of drum samples

I'd like to add voice pitcher from toneboosters. High quality stuff. I use the soundtoys one very often and pitchmap from Zynaptiq for more experimental stuff and like them very much.

You've forgotten Waves Soundshifter too - https://www.waves.com/plugins/soundshifter

Don't use it myself but have seen Giuseppe Ottaviani use it quite often in his youtube production vids

Lesser known, small dev choice:

Aegean Music Pitchometry

Not the greatest overview of what the plugin can do, but there aren't a lot of videos about it.

-Polyphonic
-No voice limit
-Delay and equalizer per voice

One of coolest things is that it has little to no latency, even with many voices. I compared it to an EHX MicroPog pedal, doing similar settings for a blend of octave up & down on a guitar signal. In terms of perceivable latency for the ocatve effect, I couldn't tell a difference between the two while playing DI guitar into my interface.

Oh and Freakshow Dumpster Fire is such a ridiculous effect, in an evil genius sort of way. :hihi:

Unfiltered Audio Spec Ops

I love this plugin. It has bugs (some of which I have reported) but it really does offer lots of inspiration for creativity. Sandman Pro (also buggy but yet to report) offers some pitch-twisting, atmosphere-generating functionality - though I would reach for SpecOps for smooth pitch glides and mangling pitch - or use my DAW for straight pitch-shifting.

I have Little Altar Boy but it's no where near as good/useful as the pitchshifter in iZotope's Nectar.

I've never used Spec Ops as a pitch shifter, I'll have to try that on something fun. I've used it more as a sound mangling device or for running hi hats through it for a different texture.

Never heard of that one ... neither has google.

People often discount NI Guitar Rig these days, and whilst I don't often use it as an amp sim, it's still got some top notch effects in there.

Pitch wise, 'Pitch Pedal' is a creditable version of the classic Digitech Whammy. You can use it for loads of stuff, from extreme pitch bending a la Rage Against The Machine, to lovely melodic swooping and simultaneous detuning in the My Bloody Valentine stylee.
