Saw Therion live in 2008. Amazing show. I'll have to check Sub Rosa.
Anyone check Giant Squid?

Reading that I could hear Tommy Vance's voice in my head, possibly a bit like this;samsam wrote: Sun Jul 21, 2019 10:40 am On the positives of very old school stuff, great memories of Motorhead, Hawkwimd, Sabbath, Whitesnake, Maiden, Priest, Saxon, UFO, Ozzy, the list goes on![]()

I saw Bon Jovi 1989, is that metal?
Sorry, I had too
It is actually true though, I watched them live in the Globe Arena in Stockholm back then, my first concert, and I was 14 years old.
Nowadays a listen to a lot of different kinds of metal. Neofolk was new to me (checked the Heilung | LIFA live concert, and I liked it). I'm more into Swedish and Finnish metal though, for instance:
Amon Amarth
At the Gates
In Flames
Arch Enemy
Children of Bodom
Kalmah
Amorphis
Wintersun
...and loads more (and plenty of different "sub genres").
Someone mentioned Therion, great band, even though I don't listen to them much nowadays.
One band I found looking for new metal a couple of years back was the Swedish band "Diablo Swing Orchestra" (link below), and by then it was the weirdest type of metal I had ever heard, apparently called "Avant-Garde Metal"
Anyway, I'm also a sucker for Power Metal, started with Helloween in the mid-nineties (yeah, I was late). And now there are many good ones from Finland, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Brazil and even the US and the UK. Some of them lean more to the Symphonic (Power) Metal genre.
To build the list with some American bands, I do listen a lot to Atreyu, Trivium, Avenged Sevenfold, Dream Theater, Five Finger Death Punch, Lamb of God and more.
Ok, post ended

Used to be a big Dream Theater fan. Have most of their (early) albums and seen them live twice. But Labrie's voice is pretty much gone these days and the last few albums has been rehashes of old stuff, for me at least.
So basically it's progressive metal where it is for me. Lately I like Thought Chamber a lot.

CrimsonWarlock aka TechnoGremlin, Moved to Reason and Rack Extensions exclusively (from Reaper and VSTs) several years ago.

Kalmah are one of my favorites! Swampmetal! I'm pissed I haven't even listened to their new album.
My first show was White Zombie (Astro Creep), The Melvins (Stoner Witch), and The Reverend Horton Heat (Liquor In The Front).
That was a show.

Did someone say Metal?
Well, my very first concert ever was Testament, Nuclear Assault, and Savatage (who later became Trans Siberian Orchestra).
My memory is disappearing quickly, so I think I may have seen Savatage another time along with Overkill and (I think?) Obituary. It was definitely Overkill because that's the first time I ever saw and heard an 8-string bass and fell in love (Soulitude). Both of the other two bands were ripping on (I think it was Savatage) the entire time they were on stage.
Lately, I've been listening to a lot of more progressive metal. Most of it is orchestral metal with female singers (Back to good 'ol Evanescence (not orchestral) and I've only recently discovered Epica. OMG, I love Epica!).
These bands have given me ideas for my own music. Not copies of them, but inspired by them.
My all-time favorite band is Maiden and the best show I've ever seen in my life (a teensy bit of acid and a few hits off a joint may have helped) is Queensrÿche's Operation Livecrime (Building Empires tour when they played the entirety of Operation Mindcrime).
Love Celtic metal (couldn't name a band, though...I just browse YouTube) and folk metal (Skyclad, anyone?).

I enjoy power rock blocks, like Geopet or NeecheBeeche.
