I think pretty much everyone you have on ignore gave you at least one piece of advice, but the problem is that you don't want to hear it. Jacques is exactly right about your problem, and when you tell him "I wasn't talking to you", it's no different from all the other examples of you refusing to take advice that differs from your 40 year old paradigm for success.

Whoah? That's really impressive (re: your daughter's YT gains).
And 12 months later after she had proved her point (because he fossilised father said there was no such a thing as a career as a youtuber) she shut her channel down and went off to find something else to do...she is currently wandering around Japan eating and discovering J Pop. :o
Sounds like your daughters got big balls...figuratively speaking, of course :hihi: And sounds like she has a good mentor as a father.

Well played :tu:

Do you mean movie theaters or do you mean theaters like on Broadway?
broadway style but more "local"
amateur dramatics type thing.

work the sound or lights or as a stage hand at something, even do a bit part.
often they look for songs to add to a play, its a way to get something done, ok not a recording, but its then "published" live :)
I'm sure we've been here before, when wags was looking for a singer. We suggested local churches, schools, colleges, etc, but he made excuses as always.

It's pretty much impossible, you need to have amazing connections, stash of current and next hits and some buzz around your name already, so than someone could give you a chance to present that... Alex da Kid had over 300 tracks when he was given a chance and he could supply half of industry with new material, that made the deal, he had something for everyone, old, new, current, he was killing it already, if you don't have at least next pop hit, don't bother, nobody will bother either.

All these people on my ignore list who clearly know how much I despise them poking their nose in where it's not wanted just because they know it's going to piss me off has gotten to the point where I've had enough.
One more pointer...you literally need to grow the f#ck up and stop chucking tantrums like a petulant bloody child every time you hear something that doesn't sit well with your world view. People are trying to help you with your request and all you do is throw it back in their faces. Sometimes you need to shut up and listen. Stop telling everybody that you know this and you've done that and you don't give a crap what they say when it pisses you off...LISTEN! You might learn something, because obviously, what you know so far, and what you have done to date clearly hasn't worked.

Now, I will clarify this, I am not a successful musician/songwriter or anything close. It is and always has been a hobby for me. But I have had a successful career that allowed me to retire at 48 because throughout my working life I sought out mentors, I worked my arse off in EVERY aspect of my career, I took risks BUT most of all, I treated everyone I dealt with, with respect and humility and valued their contributions to my knowledge. I have always sad that you never learn more than when you teach another. I have yet to mentor someone who I have not learned something of value from because I LISTEN!
First of all, I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to the people I have on ignore who have had nothing useful to add to this thread but their insults.

Back door. I had an idea to try to get an intern position (unpaid) at a recording studio as a mix engineer. Hopefully, through that, get into the back door as a songwriter.

Problem is, there are no studios in NJ. At least not in my area. This isn't exactly New York. I'd gladly work at a place like this for no pay if it can get me in.

And no, moving to New York at this stage of my life is not an option.

Growing up I made mistakes. I can't go back and undo them. What's done is done. Yes, I'd do things differently starting with living right where everything is happening. But there are no rewind buttons.

Look, I've got one iron in the fire. It looks like sometime next year I'll have a song recorded. After that, I can die in peace. That's all I really want. Anything else is gravy.
See I ain't feelin' that cuz you buy every new synth that comes out …. your sig is longer than my arm with expensive VSTs that you seem to buy for nothing but sound design. If I did what you do I only be able to afford one meal a day. After a point how many do you need? If you have a DAW like Studio One the included instruments are plenty to write songs with. Most songwriters use only piano or acoustic guitar to compose. Don't tell me you can't get a singer for the price of Vocaloid. You've deluded yourself and expect us to go along for the ride. In another thread I saw someone offering $ 20.00 for what they need. You hemorrhage cash on gear then expect to be mentored for free? Check yourself. Is the tail wagging the dog? Or is the dog wagging the tail?

Okay, true story.

For our church, we hired a song and dance man. After his performance, we talked. Found out that he was looking for music for a play he was working on. I told him I write music. He said "Great!" He gave me his contact info and I wrote to him immediately.

He never got back to me. This was like a year ago.

I've been told by members of the church who know him that he has "problems."

Point is, this has been the story of my life. I can't even begin to count the number of people who "promised" to do something with me and ended up either backing out or just plain disappearing.

I should write a song called "Promises Broken"

I know I'm on ignore because you think I have nothing worth hearing...elitists like you and jancivil reduce me to a thug because you don't understand someone who is not trying to be the next big thing.

I especially liked him on the Sega Mastersystem

This is just another excuse, but you don't want to see things like this as excuses. Yet again someone offers advice and you think of a reason why should shouldn't follow the advice.

To succeed you push people, follow up on follow ups, move on to the next person before you get results with the previous one, and most important of all you don't give up.

Calling previous outcomes to a strategy "the story of my life" is just being pessimistic and defeatist.

Time to get on with life...If I thought you would listen I'd tell you about the fantasy career I derailed my life for. I had a meager amount of success but I eventually realized it wasn't to be and I better get on with the life I had left and be grateful for the little piece of my dream that I had enjoyed.

This is solid advice.

I think there is a lot of good advice in this thread for people who want to get signed in general - so it can be of value to others.

That's why you didn't get anywhere. You defeated yourself before you even started! You're not going to jump straight to the position of mix engineer with little or no real world experience. Do you have a client-base as a mix engineer?

For studio work: How fast can you wind cable? How are your tea making skills? How quickly can you set up and dismantle a live room? Again - this job will be heavily focused on building relationships - especially listening to clients to ensure that their demands are realised. This being an on-going process during the mix - especially if your client wants to sit in with you and give directions.

It seems that you like to set a scenario for yourself, which you either have absolutely no interest in or is impossible - by your own reasoning - and then throw that back at those trying to help.

I am curious about one thing. All you guys ragging on me and busting my balls, going back to my first post, where's YOUR success? So you're all killing it in this industry?

Yeah, that's what I thought.
