This issue has been raised in the past. We have correspondence from Dirk that NFR will not apply to licenses transferred to youthat are otherwise free and clear. DESPITE what the site says. When we raise the issue of what the site says being in contradiction to whay Dirk said, all we get is "We are aware of this and cant not change what it says on the site due to technical reasons." which ia bunk. So if anyone has an issue with NFR search KVR and GS for the thread about this. Dirk said to contact customer support if there is a problem related to NFR.

Hahaha, what a friggin' joke!

The upside is if you transfer 6 plugs it's actually cheaper than $50, so 6 plugs for transfer seems to be the sweet spot as 6 x 20 = 120 - 60% = 48 so it's technically better than the 50 buck limit, of course if you want to transfer more than 6 plugs then it's total bullshit

The NFR crap better be a mistake though, otherwise we may just get our first chance to see where EU law really stands on this :ud:

This made me laugh though in the newsletter
Voucher Codes for MEGA Bundle yearly intro offers:
Extended until August 31
We heard from a lot of users that they loved the MEGA Bundle yearly "Deal of your lifetime" voucher codes for the early adaptors, but some of you just need some extra time to be prepared to subscribe. We are happy to announce that we have extended all the voucher codes for the MEGA Bundle yearly intro prices until August 31. Just use the codes you have already received, they will work through all of August.
No people don't need more time to decide, they just don't want to pay for a sub :dog: I guess the extension means they didn't hit projected targets ?

I do need more time to "be prepared to subscribe". I'm going to need as long as it takes for the sub to be $5/m.

TFW one of your most reliable income streams is license transfer fees :dog:

Kind of annoying that they lifted the $50 limit, but most people will probably actually benefit from discounted transfer fees since 7+ at a time is surely the minority

What makes me a little cynical about it is that this was introduced basically alongside the subscription, as they realize that they can milk a few more bucks when people who signed up for the subscription sell off their licenses en masse.

The grabbing hands grab what they can...

I had a good laugh when I saw that mail arrive, by the title alone. Again with the hype, will they ever learn?
My respect for PA drops faster than their prices did.

I was honestly planning to take a look at the second-hand market and grab a few plugins from people switching to subscription. So they messed with the $50 cap specifically to make life harder for people like me and anyone trying to sell me their plugins as a bundle. And beyond that I have a hard time committing to a company that is literally changing the rules from under us as they come up with new schemes.

At this point I have no reasonable expectation that they won't invent a WUP thing and suddenly I owe them money for all the plugins I thought I bought on a lifetime license. it just makes no sense to invest in PA plugins until this settles, which is probably going to be a while. In fact I think the odds at this point are about 50/50 that they either honor the commitments made, or invent some BS scheme to charge us more for our current plugins. I'm not rushing to grow my PA plugin arsenal under this uncertainty.

Exactly my thoughts

You can literally expect ANYTHING. They will clearly do whatever they wish to keep their profits up.

That really would be the end of it for me. I stopped bothering with Waves a while ago and WUP was most of the reason. The concept my paid license being unsupported after just a year is gross, but the cost of it is so outrageous it's literally laughable. I bought about 10-12 of their plugins in the last several years. Counting the handful of freebies and throwaways I've accumulated from them I have 18 plugins. I just checked my account. Apparently WUP is discounted right now (oh happy day), and it would cost me $261 to renew everthing. $348 if it werent discounted. (edit - apparently there's a cap at $240, which apparently does not apply to me. Not sure why.)

I could buy two Fabfilter plugins for that. Maybe three. Hell I could get a very decent dynamic mic for that. I'm just grateful I'm not a mac user who would eventually have to pay for the updates due to the OS changes. On windows I can probably keep using these same versions for the next several years.

I like to meme and laugh about this PA stuff, but a lot of it barely affects me beyond wrinkling my nose a little and losing some respect. Despite the deluge of recent angry comments about how their plugs "aren't even good" - some of them really are quite good. Bx and Elysia are certainly better than waves IMO. They can keep shooting their own foot and I'll just... not buy from them until they offer me an actual good value, but if they introduce an update plan they're dead to me lol

Post

I thought they still support after the year is up.

Post

Am i misusing "support" then? I always considered maintenance and/or updates as kind of a big part of something being "supported"

Like customer support is a fine thing, but when i hear of something being "unsupported" i generally think of a dead product, which is kind of what you have with an expired update plan

Post

I dunno. I've heard so many different opinions/explanations of WUP I'm not clear. It's like the twilight zone.

Luckily, mine all seem to work so I'll knock on wood.
