Nonsense! That might be the case if Wagenheim wanted to become the next Bieber, or even the next Tom Jones. But that is not the case.

Wags' music, at least when he doesn't try to ape genres he doesn't even understand, is timeless. Singer-songwriter, pop, ballads, and Broadway styles will always have their fare share of fans. A good hummable tune (Not that twee shit he used to coax out of Vocaloid), and good lyrics (I've complimented him on those, before) are all you need. And being the talent behind the talent means you don't need to deal with anybody's preconceptions about what an artist is 'supposed' to be.

The only thing stopping him is his excuses, which can be found on pretty much every page of this thread :tu:

This site claims to get your music in front of industry pros but it is not cheap and I have read mixed things about it: https://www.taxi.com/

Why don't you contact good youtube singers? Write songs for these people?

So there is practically no one here who has made it with their songs. There's really no thread to be had, had we heeded that bit.

I finally felt I maybe should say something regarding the immersion aspect and living the life.
I knew by age 18 'this business' wasn't for me. I made some songs someone I knew from around had written seem a little more like records. Decent-ish demos for that time. These songs were good enough, judging by what made it. There was label interest. Long story short, what has to happen for a next step in interest to happen, let alone the steps to get it on radio, involve a massive intertwining clusterfuck of quid pro quo and where one exchange runs into the territory of another. Soon, someone who really just doesn't give a shit is in charge of your next step and you have to have something he wants and a lot of it. And what did he want in the 1970s? coke, whores, money, other things which are less wholesome. Someone else has to want your song to succeed quite badly and that's a personal ego investment at least.

Hunter S Thompson: “The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.”

I was naive and sensitive and I never really became a hard person. It takes a thick skin.

The other part of this is I'm talking promoting the song per se, by an individual who is not out creating interest with a really happening live show; that can happen but where the attendant side action wouldn't be all at once in concentration (from what I witnessed around me with a couple of bands which happened) like I found it, I suppose. That is a major area of advantage which is lacking for a lone person with no act. Songs are a dime a dozen.
These were some kind of Beatlesy tunes by people who were very much not Beatles, not in the ways which count (an act which could boast some notoriety, let alone the requisite cuteness good for a cartoon treatment) so the nakedness and purity of rock promo was to become fairly transparent in a moment.

he never actually wrote that, but he did write:
“The TV business is uglier than most things. It is normally perceived as some kind of cruel and shallow money trench through the heart of the journalism industry, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs, for no good reason.

That's a good idea in an organic sense. For more than one reason.
