Life is really strange.

Here's a copy of the email I just received. Names have been removed.
Steven,

I had a call with my guitarist, drummer and bass player right after I got your last email. Explained things to them and sent them a link to your song.

I also told them you were the most prolific writer I have ever come across.

They took some times and reviewed a lot of your posted material.

Each came back to me with a series of songs that they liked.

They have proposed to me that we do a tribute album to you. They are both astounded at the amount of material you have published on Gearslutz.

Please be aware that the songs may be changed quite a bit from what you originally wrote as we would make it to fit our view of the material.

I know we can just send you an NOI and do it but I would like you to be comfortable with it.

No way I can predict a finish time frame or even if we can get it distributed by my distributor. My distributor said he would take a wait and see attitude on the material before deciding to release it.

In essence we would do the songs as we have time and at the end it may not get released. No matter what you would get copies of the finished versions.

The only bug in the ointment from my end is that my drummer He stated he does not have time to do this so I would like to get any midi tracks of the songs we are interested in.
I am assuming your drum tracks and such are midi.

I am the king of editing and pasting things so it would give me a jumpstart on programming the final sequence and drums of each song.

Would probably be a 1-2 year side project for us.

Hope to hear from you soon as I would have time to do some basic setup work on them before we get back to recording my next album in September..

If this is doable let me know and I will send you a list of the songs they chose.

Question: How do you export MIDI in Cubase?

Post

sounds good :tu:

somewhere under your save menu there should be the option to export midi file?
you should have an option for type 0 and type 1.
iirc for individual instruments its type 0?

Thanks Vurt. I'll go take a look.

Do you offer your songs royalty free for this project? Any contract on the horizon?

If the distributor decides to release the album then I will receive publishing on it. Right now I have one song with them that an agreement was already reached on. The others are a "we'll see" kind of deal as far as any releases go.

Sadly, I didn't listen to them until 78 or so, after all their best work was behind them. I was so excited when they re-formed and I bought that 9021000000000 album with alacrity.......sorry I can't recall the experience without being triggered.

:hihi:
Jon Anderson did a solo album with Vangelis that was really good. You might want to check it out.
I have, not traumatizing, but not exciting for me either. The only solo effort of Jon Anderson I was fond of was Olias. I heard it for the first time while under the influence of Orange Sunshine. I don't go in much for drug induced profundity. It's mostly self-deluded crap when it's not outright nonsense. But that experience, sitting in a candlelit room with Olias playing and no one talking, was pretty cool. Until someone wanted to play pool and turned on the fluorescent lights. Ow.
ABWH was pretty good, I find it to be fairly yes like...:tu:

Agreement? In form of a signed contract on paper? Perhaps it would be wise to have a lawyer with experience in protecting intellectual property.

All my songs are copyrighted. If anybody tries to steal anything, not that I'm worried, I'm protected.

Thank you for your concern. This is a non issue.

Sorry for being persistent. But copyright doesn't protect you if you offer your songs under license Royalty Free Music.

Okay, again, I am NOT offering these songs under license Royalty Free Music. I don't even know where you're getting that from.
