You're right, of course :tu:

Cool stuff. Does seem more like a showreel (but with video, audio both from you.) IMO you would do well to team up with a writer or at least a storyboard creator. Regardless there’s a lot of skill displayed.

It is posted in a curious subforum, though.

Thanks yeah... it's a project that started from nothing but a redesign project of Zebralette... so there was no real storyboard to begin with. Just a basic idea and evolutionary development to bring it all together in an organic dream like way and fusing in the GUI design aspect into the environmental objects that lay within.

The initial story is really about a software developer who has been transported through to a digital world after finding a laptop laying on a beach. He's of course not alone and thus is competing with another entity... The real world and digital world are linked vie a source over the sea upon the location where the developer lives, and the laptop was left for a person to pick up and use.

EVOL as the name might sound, isn't a friendly force, it can change time and space and place you back in different technological era's, hence why you see computers from different technological times...

I thought about providing a narrative to explain that from the beginning, which I suppose I could still do, but within that is the technological development of GUI design development as well, so it's kinda like a box within a box, within a box world...so to speak. 5 minutes in, it's highlighted what the core aim of the film is about, but what isn't is the mystery surrounding it... which I think people can get lost on... As is though, I left it as an open book for one to interpret...through visual cues.

One of the aims I wanted to capture, was aspects of games / arcade machines, 2D sprites ect, as they bring back some special memories from my own youth.

It's pretty rare, to find one person in any big film production that pretty does everything himself as I've highlighted, so working with others is something I've done in the past workwise some years ago locally in my area for big screen viewing at the cinema, which was fun. On the bigger scheme of things, it is like a showreal in away... There's things I wanted to include and things I wanted to change, but being a perfectionist, I'd never finish it.. There's always a new challenge waiting... and one to build on.. As for posting this here, well it's pretty much the main place I reside on KVR and where people can typically find me.... mobile devices / tv devices are set as default from my end.... it's a message to those who have dissed my abilities as an artist also which has happened many times on KVR, so that's another fun reason why it's posted here. But otherwise I'll see what interest it gathers outside these forums, and where I can take it to open doors to new opportunities... which in reality are really quite hard times for me right now...

Have to keep chugging away...

As it happens I can now post the free GUI's for Zebralette, but I'll give it a day or so, as I'm pretty tired...

The 3d work is nice (and obviously takes time and some skill) but I must admit to not getting the daw instrument gui mockups, what that has to do with the "film".

Do you do any current commercial graphic or animation modeling work or is this all just a hobby?

Post

Pretentious, muddled, nauseatingly self congratulatory.

Doesn't know what it wants to be.

Too much reliance on fade to blacks to give the illusion of "artistically shot"

Cinematically, the first 35 seconds were the best. It went downhill from there.

I don't want to be the party pooper , but I think it's verry mediocre , especially for someone who keeps bragging about his talent .
It feels like a collection of of try outs done in 5 minutes , seriously
-The animation is static and lifeless , hint .. a bit of random noise on the camera can do wonders
The tron bike animation is just really bad
-The renders have a scanline 90's era feel ( if that's what you were aiming for )
-hint blender 2.8 eevee gives results almost comparable to cycles .
If you would have said this is your first animation I would be impressed , but like I said ..
I don't think you're are even aware of your mediocrity , narcissism is a sweet drug :tu:

So I assume any critique will just fly over your head .
You can post stuff like this on kvr , where the majority have no experience with 3d , but I challenge you t post this on dedicated 3d site

It shows you have some skills to do some of this, but to be honest it doesn't seem to have any cohesive theme to it to keep my attention, and I found myself losing interest quite quickly. Also the music doesn't really seem to sync up with anything that's going on visually. I watched it through though, and my overall impression is that it needs some sort of direction.

Not trying to criticize needlessly, but thought you would appreciate honest feedback.

I am a fan of retro graphics and computers, and "demos", those were the thing when I was a teen. This reminded me of those times. However it left me somewhat empty. Maybe because you failed to convey some deeper and more clear feelings in it. There's nothing I can feel. Just a 90s poor 3D techno animation lookalike. But hey, nobody made a great music or a film first time. One has to be persistent and keep trying. Keep trying. :tu:

btw. music is nice.

Has it ever crossed your mind that maybe those who "diss your ability as an artist" actually have a point? Or do you just dismiss all criticism without attempting to understand it, and equate time spent with skill?

Just because something took a lot of your time and effort doesn't necessarily mean it's skilled work. As someone has already said, try posting this in an actual 3D web community.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.
