In response to my previous "set Dune1 free" comment, I have both DuneCM and BE, but I took the Dune 1 demo for a spin a while ago and was very impressed by the FX section.
I know similar results can be achieved in the DAW using track/channel presets or combinators if you're in Reason, but it's a pity those fx aren't available in CM and BE, because they're good enough to want to use even if you're loaded with 3rd party FX.
On the upside, Dune 1 is great for drum/perc synthesis and light enough for liberal use as a dedicated drum "module", so the CM/BE versions are perfect for that. And the basses are great too :)

I agree that there is something special about DUNE 1...

It may not be as technically advanced as DUNE 2 and 3,but it has a certain vibe about it that makes it a real joy to use and it's very easy to dial up sounds that work well in the mix...

I also use DUNE 2,but there's no reason to leave DUNE 1 behind...

I have a bunch of great synths in the toolbox and DUNE 1 is the main workhorse out of all of them :tu:
No auto tune...

dune1>dune2>dune3. everything about it... dune2 was pretty great, dune3 is definitely greater...

I'm not forgetting that Maxx allowed Richard to use Toxic code in Orion's Toxic but did he also allow Richard to use that code in another plugin that might compete with Maxx's plugins done for Image-Line ?

Remember the subject was did Richard use any Toxic code in Dune......

It was released after Toxic was included in orion, so maybe he had a chance to include some of the fm or whatnot from that synth into it.

Maxx went on to release Toxic III and then Toxic Biohazard as well.

I liked Toxic 2 in Orion and would have loved a VSTi version to use outside of Orion. I made a feature request for that to happen but I seem to remember there was a permission issue that prevented it from happening although I can't find the quote now (it's been many many years ago).

Pedant........ :hihi:

Do you remember what the story was behind Orion's Toxic 2 ? I remember liking it a lot (this was long before Dune) and asking for a VSTi version for use outside of Orion but I don't remember exactly what the response was and why it never happened..... :?

It (2.5) was released as VST about 10 years ago I think.

Not the Orion version ? I would have used it back then outside of Orion. I do own Toxic Biohazard but no longer have it installed. I think that was the next (last) VSTi (not locked to Orion) version of Toxic from Maxx.

Anyway of course spurred on by this thread I had to go back and try the old Orion Toxic again but....

Oh well it's probably best to leave old plugins to rust. To many high quality options to choose from these days. :tu:

To add to all this .... Dune CM (dune 1 in disguise) was great.

Dune 2 sounded different and took me a little while to get used to it.

Now I love them all.

They make such a good contrast to many other synths, generally warmer and not so crystalline.

Richard updated toxix himself in Orion, but im not sure it was posdible to make it 64bit, so was dropped

i think, long time ago

also, D2 included most of the (inferior) parts od D1, such as legacy filters/wts etc, so if you wanted that legacy sound, you can still get it.

One of the best things about DUNE is that it sounds great without any effects...

I haven't tried DUNE 3 but DUNE 1 and 2 sound very good without any of the effects engaged...

Even the CM version sounds great because it is essentially DUNE 1 with no effects section...

Many synths rely on the inbuilt effects to sound good...

But not DUNE
No auto tune...
