Did you ever think about how introducing your music to someone on the internet, in a thread whining and complaining about how you haven't made it, might affect someone's impression of it? Going on about how mind boggling it is that terrible music has become popular... stating clearly quality is not a mark of success in the industry... how all this might affect someone's impression of you as a musician? Really great excuse for your lack of success. It's the industry's fault. It's not you of course.

This is how I was introduced to you as a songwriter.

And then you want to bully me with your buddies? You posted your music. I commented. I offered a challenge, you decline. Wonder away about me. You don't get my music. You got a challenge. I was happy to write something specific. You declined.

It wasn't too much of my time to give your work a listen. But this now is too much time. And pointless.

I do. Sucks is a bit harsh, but generic and outdated is how it comes off to me. Just because you can mix and master on a level that you feel is competent doesn't make your songs interesting. The ability to compose in multiple genres does not mean you've mastered them or created something that the fans of that style appreciate. Oh,I know my output is easily shot down, but that doesn't mean my opinion is invalid. If you believed in your music you wouldn't abandon it to do library music or anything else. People told Prince nobody got his music but him, still he pushed on until his influence affected the industry. Whether or not you like his music his influence is undeniable. If you are committed to your art you would not waiver or give a damn what others think. If you think today's music is inferior then do something about it instead of whining.

Hey, you and SAW have a lot in common. You should start a Wagtunes "not so much a fan" club.

Never claimed to be a fan. Tried to understand. As a senior tried to sympathize. What separates us is recognizing that our time has past no matter of skill. Let the youth have their 15 minutes and step aside.

I disagree slightly, my time hasn't passed per se as much as time has changed my course over the years. I am quite content being the only person to impose expectations on my passion. My time hasn't passed yet though, I'm a young 60 and everyone knows I'm a kid at heart...I'll gladly give my 15 minutes or anytime I have to the youth, I have no need for that...but I have a lot more growing, learning, discovering and having fun ahead of me meanwhile my past is my foundation.
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

That's all well and good for you, but if you have any interest in producing music on a professional or commercial level it's what the audience thinks that defines your success or lack of it. If you are directing your output at the AARP audience OK but if you want to be part of the current scene you have to admit there is very little room for 60+ artists. If you had a hit in previous decades maybe there's Vegas or Oldies cruises but not much else. And as the generations previous have a smaller demographic share so will interest in your music.

wagtunes wrote: Thu Jul 18, 2019 4:08 pm I just watched a video by Rick Beato titled "I'm Sick Of Your Excuses" and it finally snapped something inside of me.

Since 1977, I've been trying to make it as a songwriter. Not a singer or performer or producer but a songwriter, like a Diane Warren or a Jim Steinman.

42 years later, still nothing. Honestly, most of it's been my own fault for being so lazy and getting discouraged so easily.

But I'm done doing that. I'm 61 years old and I don't know how much time I have left. And the last thing I want to do is leave this world knowing I didn't do everything I could to make it, even if I don't make it.

I'm not coming here looking for any favors. All I want is a road map to get me started.

Years ago, when I was fairly active, basically you either moved to New York or Nashville or just send demo tapes to publishers. To that end, I would use the Songwriters Market looking for publishers interested in the kind of music I wrote. I did get one songwriting contract in 1990 but the song was never recorded.

What I want to know is how a songwriter goes about making it today when they're not a great singer, instrumentalist or producer? What are the options available to me today? Does the Songwriters Market still work? Does it even still exist?

I'm looking to hear from people actually in the business who have had success in the business. Opinions of those sitting in their basements doing home recordings who have never made 5 cents in this business aren't welcome. I'm sorry but I can't be chasing after a whole lot of "suggestions" that have no basis in actual fact. If you haven't had success in this business then you can't possibly tell me how I can succeed.

So I am requesting that, with your advice, you post examples of your success in the business. All other posts will be ignored.

I realize that I will probably get no useful responses to this thread due to my requirements. And that's fine. But no more excuses and no more wasting of my time. I've already written to one professional in this business and hopefully I will hear back from him, making this thread moot. But if there's somebody here who might actually want to help me and has the street cred to back up their advice, I'll listen and I'll take it. And if it's physically possible for me to do, I'll do it because before I die I want to make sure I've done everything possible to make it as a songwriter.

Thank you for your time reading this.
upload your songs on internet and you will leave something when you'll gone.I feel in the same emergency of you since death hail me 2 times.I have released nothing i am proud enough to be uploaded on the internet since nearly 6 years , but now and since 6 years i work hard every day , i want the perfect song just like i have in mind , will i be famous ? no , but in the end , when i will unleash my songs i will feel free from myself , i will let my song online forever to everyone who will want to listen it .
that's what we have to do and maybe in 100 year someone will make a cover of our song and become famous ?!!... ;)
