it's just the cosmic battle between good and evil taking place in a televisual manner.
hopefully good will prevail and katy will be exonerated

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree and side with the jury on this one. I actually like Katy Perry and would have liked to take her side... but I can see what the verdict sees.McLilith wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2019 11:43 amThe riffs used by the rapper and Katy Perry are also different. They differ in the notes and intervals they use. They differ in key. They differ in timbre. They differ in their use or non-use of portamento. They differ distinctly in tempo. They differ in prominence within their respective musical works. The riff used by the rapper is used much more extensively throughout his recording. The riff used in the Katy Perry recording is used much more sparingly in comparison.SAW75 wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2019 12:30 am The Art Pf Noise example is different and completely irrelevant
I sympathize with the rapper's perspective. I don't think this was a simple cash grab as others are suggesting.

Where exactly is the similar bit so I don't have to listen to the whole tracks?

I dont know why, but I find it slightly weird that "Dark Horse" is the name of a George Harrison album, and he was also successfully sued for plagiarising a 'Christian' track.
Coincidence? or illuminati satanist templar conspiracy? what's next for these bastards?

Pretty much right at the beginning of both tracks. Maybe 15 seconds into the Perry song.aMUSEd wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2019 2:16 pm Where exactly is the similar bit so I don't have to listen to the whole tracks?

You know when you have those moments when you think of a not so obvious connection between things and don't say it, then later someone else says it - I had the same thought yesterday and didn't post.whyterabbyt wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2019 2:27 pm I dont know why, but I find it slightly weird that "Dark Horse" is the name of a George Harrison album, and he was also successfully sued for plagiarising a 'Christian' track.
Only difference is I thought of the copied songs the other way round - religious song plagiarized here, but I thought of a secular song being plagiarized to create a religious song in George Harrison's case.

Now I wonder... has the defence in this case been sleeping, sent a fresh intern or have they underestimated their enemy?
If it is not likely you heard the original, then plagiatism should be off the table.
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

With all due respect, why? Nothing in the video isn't completely obvious. Just listen to the tunes. Is it "coincidental"? If they proved she was aware of the rapper's tune... I don't know they did that though or if that is a legal thing these days.BertKoor wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2019 7:31 pm

That is the problem with YouTube videos. Someone picks a side and then nails it to a wall. But I can totally see another point of view here...

That is the key I guess.BertKoor wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2019 7:31 pm If it is not likely you heard the original, then plagiatism should be off the table.
Trouble is who knows what her team is into... theoretically you could bot all of the internet for riffs and ideas without giving credit.... that is scary because this one is mighty mighty close in intent. Even if it is buried over time with other elements within her song.
But yeah. In my mind they would have to prove a likelihood of her or her team hearing the song in the first place...

Well she almost definitely was aware of the song as it was up for a big Christian Music award in 2008 and that is her background. Also "You know what it is" in Joyful Noise and "Y'all know what it is" in Dark Horse.. each intro... hmmm...
She was mocking this guy. She stole this. Cost her a couple of million. Doubt she cares.
Given the Christian Music thing and the Egyptian/pagan references in the video... a little dark for sure. A little vindictive I think.
Anyway that's my take on it. Something a little more sinister here than stealing a minor scale.

Yeah, a background she'd dropped out of by 2002.SAW75 wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2019 8:26 pm Well she almost definitely was aware of the song as it was up for a big Christian Music award in 2008 and that is her background.
