I can pick up on several different British accents, some are quite distinct.

Having lived for 2 decades in each country, I can say there are significantly more varied accents in Britain than there are in the US.

Honestly I'm really surprised at how difficult most Americans find it to even identify a British accent from other English speaking countries, as Canadians, Australians, Irish, New Zealanders, South Africans, etc. really don't have that problem.
