The Story behind The Sweeper
The Sweeper is a tool for dynamic frequency Sweeping that sets its frequency based on the source or side-chain signal. The inspiration behind this new plugin came from denise’s Enrico Tiberi (nrec), an up and coming producer. At the time, he just got back from Beijing, where he had been recording in the Modern Sky Studio, one of Asia’s major studios, with the AMS Neve 88RS console – the largest mixing desk in China. “The inspiration came from mixing a lot of stuff where I had to automate filters all the time to clean up tracks and create resonances on the spot”, he says. Going from there, we developed The Sweeper: A more natural sounding alternative to side-chain compression and gating, and a creative tool that lets you completely reshape your sound.

When to use The Sweeper?
There are three major use cases for The Sweeper. Firstly, use it instead of side-chain compression for a more natural, balanced sound. Secondly, reduce a noisy vocal without gating. Thirdly, The Sweeper offers endless options to creatively shape your synths, drums and vocal parts. Sweep away – it’s all up to your imagination. To get a taste of the possibilities, head over to https://www.denise.io/store/denise/TheSweeper. Producer nrec recorded over 20 detailed example videos showcasing The Sweeper on real tracks he is producing for different artists.

“I love The Sweeper! It gives you great possibilities, especially when you are working with audio files and would like to emulate an envelope following filter automation afterwards!” – Dennis Shepherd (DJ/Producer, https://soundcloud.com/dennissheperd)

The Sweeper highlights:
  • New GUI style.
  • Adaptive filter & interactive graph.
  • Side-chain input, making the plugin a good alternative for side-chain compression and
  • allowing more creativity by receiving multiple envelope inputs.
  • Define the filter’s desired start and end frequency with an option to flip its direction.
  • Precisely control the filter’s behaviour over time with Attack & Release.
  • Go from subtle to extreme resonance for a wide range of use cases.
  • Low CPU usage.
  • Work offline without dongles or complex licence managers.

The Sweeper is now available on the denise website (formats: VST, VST3, AU, AAX) at a summer promotional price of €24.99 (£26 incl. VAT) (regular price €48.90 incl. VAT). Download a free trial and find examples and productions tips at https://www.denise.io/store/denise/TheSweeper.

Aww man.. Denise Audio yet again revealing semi-secret production techniques and bundles it in a nice UI and awesome sound. Damn you guys for making stuff so simple and revealing useful techniques to the world! :tu: :D

I feel almost criminal for saying this, but this very feature is possible within for instance FabFilter Volcano.. or within any DAW that allows automation of plugin parameters through an envelope follower (Reaper, FL Studio, Ableton Live and many other "modular" hosts).

Still, having this useful ability within one plugin with such a clear and awesome GUI is probably well worth the affordable price. Well done guys!!

Yes you can achieve a similar effect by assigning an envelope to trigger a filter and then automating the filter cut off. But none of those options allow you to trigger the filter by side chaining in the kick drum's audio signal. I find I'm getting pretty different sounding results with this plugin when side chaining drums into it.

Is like LFO Tool?
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

Hi Dirtgrain, thanks for your question.

LFO is low frequency oscillation and the effect will normally create a regular movement in the sound you assign it to, which can also be synchronised. The Sweeper plugin will follow the input signal and respond to the shape of the sound that it is assigned to.

I hope that answers your question, but feel free to ask us more question if you need.

Hey bmanic, thanks for your message and i'm pleased you like what we're doing. Making things simple with a user friendly design is what we're all about. We're aware of Fabfiler's Volcano and I actually use it myself.

I'm glad you like the examples and if you come up with any interesting uses yourself we I would be interested to hear what you come up with. Feel free to share something in here. :tu:

I'm glad you're having fun with it. The side chain addition creates real versatility with this plugin :phones:

Do you even REAPER, bro?

Hi all, a few people asking about what The Sweeper has that other similar filters do not. We have three great features that really sets this apart from others.

1) you can decide exactly the 2 start and end frequencies, which is not possible in Ableton's - that one is not controllable at all
2) you can reverse its functions on the spot
3) you can visualize what you are sweeping

We offer a 7 day trial with all plugins, so feel free to give it a go for yourself:

Hi all,

I wanted to inform everyone that, as of today, The Sweeper has presets.

If you currently own a copy of The Sweeper, all you will have to do is download a copy of the installer from your library and install like normal. The installer will overwrite the older version.

If you are yet to get a copy, simply buy a copy from denise.io and install as you would usually.

Hi all,

Something else I wanted to share with denise audio plugins users, something that might be of interest to users of The Sweeper.

We're currently giving away a copy of the Noize Retro for the next few months, as we did at the beginning of the year. Check out the Noize Retro page which details how you can get yourself a copy of this plugin.
