Nope, no custom location for samples.

I need to use it a lot more before I can form an opinion, but so far I am liking the vintage black oyster kit best of all. The customization options are nice and fun to tweak. In my initial opinion, the infinite round robins don’t make it sound more realistic than a highly detailed sampled kit like evil drums running on BFD3. I went back and forth and compared several times.

Modo Drums sounds pretty much like the sound demos on the IK website. No better and no worse. So don’t get it expecting it to sound different. It does have that sound that some have referred to as "plasticy". I like gritty drums for my projects and I need to play with it some more to get there, but maybe the grittiness I like comes from the recording techniques, mics and preamps used and Modo is not attempting to sound like a recorded frum

What kind of snares are modeled? I always wanted a Ludwig Black Beauty snare for my actual drum set and would like to create something like it if possible.

Not read the whole thread, but since it's about 10 years that I'm fiddling with drums PM (but released nothing because unsatisfied), I checked the sound demos of MODO DRUM (no plugin demo to download I found).
From those audios I quite like big drums but cymbals, multi-layers sampled cymbals still sound much better. I hope they will make VST demo available so I could know more.

There are also new audio demos on the web site: https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/m ... hp?p=audio

Those are what I just already checked, good snares and toms. Cymbals show little variations.
And indeed it seems that audio demos are focused on big drum sound.

@Peter IK - the flexible location of the sample set is pretty desirable with a sample set this size. Any chance you guys could cook up an installer that allows the setting of a sample folder anywhere on the system?

I will definitely bring this up with the devs/PM. Thanks!

There are also some users that have posted examples. The Twitter user at https://twitter.com/Minatnoy has some more simple natural examples posted.

There is also this user video that goes through some more advanced/customization options:

Thanks for the video link. What I would expect from "il nuovo balzo in avanti della modellazione fisica: MODO DRUM" would be at least the ability to variate (more or less automatically) the stroke position, which is one of that main features of a real drum kit being played live.
What I hear in the video above are variations of tone (body), or open/close HiHat continuous variation, but no variations about where the drumsticks hit the instruments. Well, if the instruments are indeed physically modeled, it should be possible to that.
As I said I can just speak for what I can hear in the recorded demos.

Post

Even in Minatnoy twitter videos where cymbals are demoed, it sounds like a selection of samples, not physical modelling. So the questions is: are only the drums modeled with modal synthesis? And no hit position modelling? Sounds like that to me, so far.

Bummer - bought it with pre-order but won't be able to install given limited SSD space available. How can it be that a product can't custom locate a large sample set?

If your on windows try this.

Make an empty folder on your SSD and name it accordingly.
Then, shortcut that folder to your desktop.
Next, drag the shortcut into the MODO default "samples" folder.

MODO should recognize the folder and now you should be able to store the samples on your SSD.

For that shortcut caper you need sufficient space on the default drive to do the install in the first place.

That's very limiting (not being able to choose the core data location), the fix above is strictly for user samples.
