Some of us have had problems with the VST Adapter 4.4.3 update. It happens during the install. Wrapped plug-ins don't seem to work in non-Cakewalk hosts. Most people have been mentioning SONY but it was any other DX capable host here. You might want to copy your cwvst.dll and VstConfig.exe to another folder for backup purposes. I was able to extract mine from a disk image made prior to the SONAR 4 install. I over-wrote the new ones and everything started working again.

I've got a few questions Eric
1. can you export all audio tracks and midi tracks as wav files simotaneously?
2.can you print efx to tracks 'in place'
3.i haven't upgraded my sonar from version 1xL, (been using live) are my old sonar tracks compatible with sonar 4 100% or are there any mishaps.
4. is sonar 4 compatible with energy xt?
5. is there a list somewhere of software that it does't work with or is having problems with?
sonar 4 is looking delicous

1) Yes, This feature has been GREATLY enhanced in Sonar4 actually. Among the enhancements
a) Able to save presets of the type of exporting you need to do
b) Ability to save all tracks out as individual audio files (meaning, if you have 10 tracks, Sonar will export and auto-name all 10 tracks for you). This is KILLER for me.
c) Ability to export multiple busses at once (for stem mixing I'd assume), and old school exporting of the entire mix.
2) By this, do you meaning bouncing an audio track with effects in the fx bin to a single audio wave file that has the effects on it (and an empty bin)? If so, then yes. Also, with S4 you can actually use the enhanced freeze feature to freeze the new audio track, but have the option of un-freezing the track (getting back your fx plugin settings) on the fly.
3) I would assume you could.. but I'm not 100% sure on that.. In Sonar2.2 they changed the file format a bit so I'm not sure how that would play.... I assume Sonar4 can open old projects, but you'd probably have to save them to the new format.
4) Not sure, I haven't used XT yet, I keep meaning to check it out tho.
5) http://www.cakewalk.com/forum , people jump over the stuff pretty quick there when it doesn't work. I remember reading some problems with gapping and Waves plugins. Apparently the problem is on waves side
.
Also, at that forum is the link to the Sonar4 demo which is out, so I'd say test drive that and see how it works for you.
I have Sonar4 and Live4 as my main hosts, they complement each other perfectly, and between the both of them there is nothing I want to do that I can't. I'm FINALLY happy with my host situation
Anyone want to buy a copy of FLStudio or Reason

I CAN'T WAIT I CAN'T WAIT !
however, one thing surprised me. my music shop delear didn't ask for my serial number... does it mean the upgrade (in my case S2XL -> S4PE) isn't a complete new version? does it mean i'll have to keep safe TWO CD-Rom's ... ?

hmmmmmmm
thsnk you very much. sonar, Live4, and Ext, that's 3 strikes, i believe there is a very sick combination brewing, my only problem will be finding a reason to get on the net.

After reading all 13 pages here, I found myself wondering: how do all you folks use Live in conjunction with Sonar 4? I am seriously thinking about moving from Live to Sonar, and I'd like to hear any and all experiences people have had with the two of them ReWired, etc!
Thanks!
Thanks!

oh no not me, i'm looking at maybe getting back into sonar as an editor, i like the fact that you can customize sonars look to anything you want and that this new version is finally what i wished the $400 bucks had gotten me when i first got sonar, but it didn't and i thought it sucked and dropped it. was saved by the wonderful sensation of live and never looked back.... until now.
i think that maybe most folks i've seen are running Live into other daws but the knowledge that eric has ben dropping suggest to me that sonar 4 might be the perfect thing along with ext for me to run into Live 4. for me Live 4 will always be my final destination but I like to write in a couple of different ways but i value each way almost equaly, for instance i'm a bigtime ex drum machine head, i just loved beat machines and when i want something that feels like that in software i reach for fruity loops, but then energy xt
is a total different feel hence diff music comes out the other end, also this sampler that jorgen is working on is going induce untold ways of mangling for sure
then sonar will be for my live stuff that i play in and dice and slice and do whatever to by way of editing which afterwards i'll export as wavs and import into Live, or maybe run straight into live but i'm not really big into rewire i like importing sets of wavs into live. last but not leastly Live 4 has it's own feel when doing everything from scratch in live and i value that as well. if i had one app only on my comp it would be live, as it is now it will be my final stage for everything else. i'm finally starting to see how this $249 might be worth it to upgrade to sonar 4, the freeze functions combined with the folder and track export functions are gonna be golden for creating stuff to throw into live.
