I have no idea how the licensing works, or if there is even a license agreement for his protection, but he is simply sharing it with other developers in a closed forum, from what I remember. I can't find the KVR post anymore, perhaps someone else has it? Anyway, wouldn't hurt to just get in touch with himmsvs wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2019 11:29 am I dont see them offering the protection for licensing on their page...so

This sounds promising!msvs wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2019 10:45 am we currently requested an SDK for Propellerheads CodeMeter protection. IF that works for us, this could be the solution for everyone. Dongle OR online check, multiple installations

Meh, I doubt it but it's all just speculation.
My point is that I don't see companies like Xfer, Fabfilter, Reveal Sound, Valhalla, Izotope, Melda etc. take extreme measures just because their software is available for free. You're obviously free to do whatever you want but in the end I think all this hurts the paying customers the most. The pirates will happily keep using the free versions or find something else when it's not available anymore.
I know I won't update if you go the Elicenser route since I've had such a bad experience with it in the past, but if you find another copy protection I might reconsider.

maybe do it like xils labs, they offer both versions, elicenser and ilok.
I was able to switch my elicenser to ilok with xils lab support, as i was selling all my elicenser stuff. And ilok online protection also is safe like a dongle.

the question from Stefken wasn´t for the compatible, it was for the 5-XPs from Sweetwater-Deal, where you said that we can change it also to upcoming XPs - will this be for sure after this warez-dilemma?
the code is only activating an XP in your account, no matter which version, or which XP version

You don't know how successful it actually is. Just like any of us, you can just speculate about it. What seems to be sure is that it's popular. But... is it successful? Only Steve Duda knows. A little Google search reveals that it's all over the respective warez sites. So... we know now that it's popular, and a much warezed plugin. But, we don't know whether or not it is successful. Which is sort of the whole deal, for the company.Puddi wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2019 11:14 am How can companies like Xfer thrive without bloated copy protections? I like this Idea. I have reason and I can log onto multiple devices with or without their USB code meter.msvs wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2019 10:45 am we currently requested an SDK for Propellerheads CodeMeter protection. Not sure CodeMeter would be my choice. I don't have the dongle (while I do have an iLok and an eLicenser) and at least some years ago one had to log into the Reason account every time to use it without the dongle (I last used this with version 6.5 so this may have changed) which was a pita and wouldn't always work for me when I'm travelling.
I personally would vote for iLok - can be had as a sturdy small dongle or software, is said to be safe (?), is used a lot in the audio realm already (other than Reason I don't know a single audio software using CodeMeter?) and also allows several installs (can be determined by the dev).
I don't mind the iLok, I don't like the eLicenser but can live with it, but CodeMeter would be the worst of the lot for me - a single-use-device, number three...
My first choice would be the u-he protection - it's much more clever and elegant, doesn't punish the paying user and the last time I talked with Urs some years ago, was actually generating income by how it works (the "Black Hole").
I hope you find something that works for you and doesn't piss off too many of your users.
Cheers,
Tom

Calling Serum 'successful' is probably an understatement. Every EDM producer, big or small, seems to be using it to some extent and it's THE synth for most bass genres. I don't think Xfer is going out of business any time soon.chk071 wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2019 1:33 pmYou don't know how successful it actually is. Just like any of us, you can just speculate about it. The speculation is more if it would be as successful if it was locked behind heavy protection. I honestly don't think so.

There is no soft-eLicenser option for Cubase Pro, it's USB-dongle only and as far as I know it hasn't been cracked. You can do a Google search and get plenty of hits suggesting otherwise but if you look more closely you'll see that they're all fake. Most offer keygens or magic serials which, if you know anything about how Cubase is activated, are all clearly nonsense.msvs wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2019 10:23 amthats because, Cubase 10 pro allowed SoftElicenser. This has been cracked, not the hardware Dongle've just had the briefest of searches (I hate even doing that) and all the first dubious results up are for Cubase 10 Pro, which is dongle-protected. Logically it makes sense that a physical dongle is more secure, but based on what I just saw the point may well be moot.

Again, though, nothing of that actually proves how successful it is. It takes a bit more than getting the big names to use it, to be successful.Puddi wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2019 2:16 pmCalling Serum 'successful' is probably an understatement. Some of those big names allegedly haven't even bought it regularly...
