as far as i can tell windows media player, itunes or real player don't support playing back wav files that aren't 16 bit. i want to audition a bunch of 24 bit wav files on my comp but it doesn't seem as though any players i have can play them. what do you lovely fellows use to play back a whole bunch of 24bit wav files?

I can play 24 bit files in WMP- what version do you have?
I do, however, recommend Winamp5- its a great player, though I really havent found any media player that I thought was absolutely splendid...

Media player classic can play those as well as 32bit and it's quite usable for Video files and watching DVD's, too. And it's small and convenient. You can find it easily. If you want something even more convenient, find 1by1 player [some 50kb program with a nice file browser built-in] and use winamp wav-play plugin with it. If you can't find in_wav.dll I can send it to you. 1by1 is an excellent player for all the audio files you can imagine - if you have in_xxx.dll plugin
and it's strength is in its small size and excellent browser with which you can browse samples with such unimaginable ease... try it. It doesn't make any registry entries and it doesn't feckup your system. Also there's one more player that's very convenient and high quality that can also play all kinds of audio files - foobar2000, but you're better off with 1by1 - it is smaller.
Cheers.

my wmp version is: 9.00.00.3250
the one that came with sp2 update so i assume it's pretty up to date. i guess i need to download an extra codec or something for it. hmmm...

Media player classic is not the microsoft media player (so your wmp version has nothing to do with the media player brought up by DuX
)
media player classic rules.
