I'm not very knowledgeable about production, but sharing some stuff I learned over the past year. You might already know most of it.Auplant wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 8:54 am I made a mixdown but while it sounds fine on monitors, it sounds very clipped on phone speakers. I listened to Eausons track and it sound fine on phone speakers. I did make a very square shaped mastering and I’m wondering if SoundCloud decompressed the audio a little... but I don’t know maybe I don’t have an excuse. I don’t really understand use of compressor in mastering. I just push with the limiter, if someone has some tips, that would be great
1) Check your mix in mono and rebalance the frequencies by checking in SPAN. Also use some reference tracks similar to your track to get the tonal balance right.
2) Ensure that your mix peaks at -1 dB at the most after limiting. Mp3 conversion without at least -1 dB headroom can lead to clipping and artifacts.
3) Don't drive the limter too hard, it should only reduce the gain by 2-3 dB so as to not introduce clipping artifacts
4) You can also use some compression and hard clipping on your drums, so that they don't make the master Limiter work too hard.
I'll add more points soon.
All the best!
