I'm not very knowledgeable about production, but sharing some stuff I learned over the past year. You might already know most of it.

1) Check your mix in mono and rebalance the frequencies by checking in SPAN. Also use some reference tracks similar to your track to get the tonal balance right.

2) Ensure that your mix peaks at -1 dB at the most after limiting. Mp3 conversion without at least -1 dB headroom can lead to clipping and artifacts.

3) Don't drive the limter too hard, it should only reduce the gain by 2-3 dB so as to not introduce clipping artifacts

4) You can also use some compression and hard clipping on your drums, so that they don't make the master Limiter work too hard.

I'll add more points soon.

All the best!

You need to watch out for True Peak! There's a nice clear explanation on this bog post:
https://www.masteringthemix.com/blogs/l ... k-metering

You should check with a free tool like YouLean Loudness Meter to check the true peak in your track.

This is one thing I've been struggling with for years.
Youlean is good, plus watch out for DC on BM, I think I put MIA border on my master, as it was really causing problems I dont think I compressed, if I do its normally 1.2, mainly I do a loudmax with a 1.4 as this normally give a truepeakof about 1.1 on Youlean. Hope that helps, although there are way better peeps in OSC who could give advice, listening on phone speaker I've noticed that I should have boosted my bass sounds in the 2-5 region :( and it soundspretty flat - Dble :(

Sorry for cross posting, but I thought some of you may be interested in this one:

TIME SENSITIVE! Cherry Audio Voltage Modular FREE this month + song contest!

Hi all,

It came to my attention that Cherry Audio Voltage Modular is FREE until the end of the month. Unfortunately, that will probably mean it can’t be used for a O.S.C., since it won’t be freely available for all to get after this month. So @lempface and I thought it would be a great idea to run a contest concurrently following the basic spirit of the O.S.C.: create an original track with all sound originating from the synth. However, we’re allowing all effects - both free and commercial, sampling of the synth, and mangling afterwards. Basically do whatever you want, as long as all audio sources originate from the synth.

Rules
  • All sounds must originate from Cherry Audio Voltage Modular Nucleus (no paid modules)
  • Submit tracks by posting to the KVR thread before October 1, 2019
  • Voting will run for 15 days afterwards
  • Must vote to be ranked in the results
  • You must be willing provide a DAW project file to admins upon request for rule validation purposes; it will be deleted after inspection
  • Must be an original track (e.g. no covers)
Prizes
  • Voltage Modular Core + Electro Drums (a $200 value)
  • More incoming!
So go get Voltage Modular before the end of the month! You can get it easily from Cherry Audio or Plugin Boutique.

You can join the One Synth Challenge Slack workspace (here to sign up) and the KVR thread about this contest.

Hope to hear your tracks!

Hello all. This is my first OSC and I have to say it was quite fun. I'll for sure be entering future OSC's.

I decided to go with a tech house sort of song. It's got a bit of cheese to it (can't go wrong with a little cheese). I know it's not really 100% tech house (more modern tech house than anything) but honestly I'm not sure where to classify it. None the less hope you enjoy.

Also if any one is feeling adventurous try and find and decode the lyrics. :)

Thnks for telling me about True Peak. Made sure the loudest parts in the track were -1.8dB or something around that.

Ok folks. Here's DoctorBob's track for this challenge. An interesting synth this and I enjoyed making this very laid back stripped down jazz track. I may make a few modifications before the deadline, but wanted to get this out for you all to hear and chill to.

Please sit back, pour a glass of your favourite tipple, relax and chill.

Ok, my submission for the contest:
https://soundcloud.com/inversionofcontr ... in-my-head

It was supposed to be psytrance track, but then changed into some dark electro hybrid. Anyway I liked this synth a lot, since I am doing some more agressive aggrotech/dark electro music I will propably use it sometimes to spice things up and make some ugly beats.
Some specification:
DAW: FL Studio 20.5
34 x Bazz Murda Free (some for panning, unisono and drums layering)

FXs:
Fruity parametric EQ 2
Maximus
Fruity Reeverb 2
Fruity Limiter
Fruity Balance
Fruity Delay 3
Ozone Imager
Fruity Stereo Shaper
Fruity soft clipper
Disto Fx Free (had to try it, wasn't really necesseray in this track)

Despite Bazz:Murda can do good kick drums it was eaiser to adjust the flute
sound than a good kick and bass, but maybe it's just my biased skills.

Hey ! Thank you for your advices (sorry for not answering, I was on hollydays to London (SW4 with Martin Garrix heeeha)). I'll try to make it more stereo and beter balance next month (because I think I need to go forward and I didn't actually like what I did this month). I'll try to keep those advice in mind. But since this is something I've been struggling with since the beginning , this will be difficult ;)
