I use Reaper which is great for audio but has problems with midifx like RandArp, Harvest, midibot, and some instruments like Kontakt. Is there anything that works well with midifx? Has to be cheap otherwise i will put up with Reaper bugs

It depends what your definition of cheap is, as there's a range of prices. Some manufacturers have free versions of their software, and some have a budget priced version. Just not sure where you're looking in terms of price range.
You could also check out a few and see if they have limited demos so you can test run them.

No problems with any of that software with several installations of REAPER (my permanent daily use, a current portable install, a current development install). Can you describe the specific problems you are having?

RandArp crashes with automation, Harvest crashes, Kontakt hangs, midibot crashes on live input. All have problems with notes hanging.yellowmix wrote: Sun Aug 25, 2019 2:41 am No problems with any of that software with several installations of REAPER (my permanent daily use, a current portable install, a current development install). Probably thinking Reaper sort of pricing. Not Bitwig or Live pricing. I looked at Cakewalk but it gets stuck in demo mode now, some sort of install bug people are reporting, and that does reduce my trust of it as a solution a fair bit. Shame as I like the look and workflowForgotten wrote: Sun Aug 25, 2019 2:35 am It depends what your definition of cheap is, as there's a range of prices. As for Cakewalk by Bandlab (CbB) and Demo Mode, it requires you to be connected to the net at least once approximately every 6 months so it can call home and deal with the reg/auth thing, if you stay off line it will drop into demo mode around the 6 monthish time frame. Apart from that there are also various problems that cause it to drop into demo mode for some people, this has been happening for a long time, from back in the SONAR Platinum era days.
Personally I wouldn't recommend CbB/SONAR to anyone, even though CbB is free, but that's just me.

Have you tried to uninstall CbB, then reinstall? It may require a CLEAN uninstall (meaning deleting all folders, registry entries. Do an online search for clean Sonar uninstall). Once you do that, just install the Bandlab Assistant, follow the install instructions for CbB and you should be fine.fairlyclose wrote: Sun Aug 25, 2019 3:50 am I had CbB installed and working quite a while ago, so i went pastthe 6 month thing. It's really not a big deal to satisfy the "online every six months" requirement. If the PC is already online, then you don't have to do anything else. If you keep it offline, then just remember to go online every five months or so and launch the CbB. Done.
I personally have never experienced the Demo mode issue and I've had Sonar/CbB installed since late 2017 (Maybe because my DAW stays online). I also visit the CW forums daily and the numbers of Demo mode issue being reported have dwindled to almost nothing. In fact, I can't recall the last time I saw one.

are there any example modules for Loomer yet or is it still fairly low level boxes and wires programming? I did have high hopes for Loomer, but not having higher level modules and examples makes it very difficult to use in a spontaneous manner.

uninstall doesnt work for me, been through the registry stuff a few times etc etc - all I can install after that is the studio instruments suite and some utilities, not cakewalk.flugel45 wrote: Sun Aug 25, 2019 1:37 pmHave you tried to uninstall CbB, then reinstall?
