But Reaper is not great? :)

If you're referring to me - my genuine apologies! I wasn't trying to derail, it just sounded like someone was interested in the MIDI mangling stuff and Bitwig is good at that. I always loved the Reason rack paradigm but the sequencer just feels so clunky by modern standards. The RE players are fun but they're still pretty basic compared to what's possible elsewhere. That said, I hope they don't abandon the core users in order to pivot towards some other business model. I know it's still got a loyal following and they should continue to support those folks!

We should all be happy with what we choose as a DAW, except Reaper :hihi:

I own Reaper, and I love it, and I am impressed by it on a technical level. But then there's the creative aspect. I don't feel as inspired as when I open Reason, and that's why I REALLY want Reason to work as a standalone DAW but the lack of a "hardware external FX I/O" plugin makes it really hard for me. Then Reaper is superior.

Maybe it will be solved when moving on to Reaper as a host for Reason. But what about ReGroove and all the stuff around generating MIDI from OctoRex etc? It's gonna be a zillion Reason VST instances scattered all over.
A is A

We're just playin' with the Reaper put down :D

There is nothing wrong with Reaper.

Just the fanboi's who use it

Ok, I'll stop now.

Hey, no worries, I wasn’t being serious :hihi:

On that score, what about CV I/O!? Reason 1 was the first soft-modular thing I ever saw (and loved), but now that it's got great company (Reaktor, Voltage Modular, VCV…), and has finally acknowledged the VST Universe, what's up with all this continued walled garden stuff?

Imho reason has never been a soft modular like reaktor or vcv , sure you have flexible audio routing and gate stuff ..but for audio rate modulation ..forget it .
The cv update rate (back cables ) is still a 64th of the actual sample rate , so that's 689 Hertz when your running at 44 KHz , this hasn't changed since 1.0 ...and that is way to low to get decent audio rate stuff going on
Reaktor (blocks ) , vcv et everything runs at samplerate
Eyeball exchanging
Soul calibrating ..frequencies

I have seen audio rate modulation in reason using audio ins and outs instead of the CVs. For example the VK-2 viking synth uses this approach and it works pretty well.

But this is within single device (same for Complex-1). Cables are just visual representation there, but routing is in the code itself and doesn't use Reason Rack's in/out sockets.

General impression is that if Reason is your only/primary DAW you will be disappointed (to put it mildly, mostly negative comments on ReasonTalk) where everyone else is overwhelmingly positive. If it works properly and you already have a version of Reason its a great idea.

mmm, now I´m not sure, it´s been a while since I opened Reason, and I can´t demo the synth anymore, but I think that VK-2 have a lot of audio ins and outs in the back and you could patch very similar to a real modular. Plus the drag and drop modulations in the front panel that as you say is just coded for itself. But I may be wrong.

Does anyone who tried the beta of Reason 11 know if you can use Reasons arps/sequencers/cv to output midi via a midi channel to another VSTi aside from Reason's VSTi like say Padshop or Kontakt or u-He VSTi's, etc. or something? It would be very nice to control several different VSTi's from Reason's VST3 plugin using Kompulsion, etc.

chk071 wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2019 12:39 pmBut now, i think they really make something good out of it. Offering the rack as VST is a great move, which surely will get them some new customers.
The question is - will people really be paying $/EUR359 for full Reason to only access the Rack VST? Or perhaps they should sell Rack VST as a separate product without Mixer and Sequencer and at reduced price of say $/EUR249 or even $/EUR199?
yeah thats a bit of a downer after the first readings. and i wouldnt understand why they should limit themselves just to that. imagine we could use evrything from reason inside another daw (except vsts of course. doesnt make sense ^^). like using all tracks with all its plugins and instruments loaded inside reason.
tbh anything else id just shrug "so what" and go on

From this article:
There’s no MIDI output from MIDI generating devices like the Matrix and MIDI effects in this version. (You can still use those to automate internal Reason instruments and effects, though, inside Reason Rack Plugin).

I could be wrong but I think you can nest a player on the external midi instrument device.
