Trackers are still the only way to use the computer as the actual musical instrument instead of just emulating hardware instruments and real world workflows on a computer screen. It's definitely fun and a good way to get a new perspective on music.
Nice to see that Renoise is still there. It doesn't get as much attention from me as it used to but I still love it.

What, there is no 32 bit Windows build anymore?
Still no sidechaining, easy routing, pan law... Well OK then, I guess the UI was more important. It's an audio application after all, of course you have to have the UI done right. Right?!

This seems to be an idea that I've seen quite a lot, but I'm not sure I really agree/understand. I don't see it as much different than mouse-clicking in a piano-roll in terms of computer music on it's own merits. Furthermore, even traditional linear daw's have long surpassed the tape workflows they were initially designed to replicate, because computersBenutzername wrote: Tue Aug 27, 2019 12:28 pm Trackers are still the only way to use the computer as the actual musical instrument instead of just emulating hardware instruments and real world workflows on a computer screen.
This I can definitely get behind, and it was the main reason for being attracted to it. I only bought it this year, but got the feeling via the forum that it may have been abandoned for a new project. That's why I thought it best to not get too invested in learning it, especially as being an OSX user we get stiffed for general compatibility long before Windows usersBenutzername wrote: Tue Aug 27, 2019 12:28 pmIt's definitely fun and a good way to get a new perspective on music.
But hey! Look where we are now

Today it's more a different mindset than actually a technical difference. Renoise has many modern DAW features like automation curves, envelopes, full features mixer, VST support etc. The only real differences left are the pattern based structure and the numerical input instead of spread sheets (= arranger) and a piano roll.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: Tue Aug 27, 2019 1:03 pmThis seems to be an idea that I've seen quite a lot, but I'm not sure I really agree/understand.
