Will V2 have an AVX instruction set?

Post

Bought Icarus! Ready for V2 now... ;)

V2 will be the same VST ID so it will fully replace the old version and function in old projects as usual right?

Post

according to post in tone2 forum (i think) it will be backwards compatible..... not sure about ID, if it replaces or if it coexists

Post

All former updates from Tone2 (Saurus, RayBlaster, Gladiator, Electra) have shared the ID from the previous versions, as far as I know and can remember. So I guess it will be the same with Icarus and any upcoming major update of Nemesis.

Q:
Will V2 have an AVX instruction set?

A:
A scenario which does benefit from AVX the instruction set is FFT operations. I will run some tests with this if it does enhance performance in practise in a significant way.
The usuall applications like filters or effects do not benefit from AVX, since the algorithms can not be parallelized without adding an additional delay.
AVX is not supported by all AMD processors. That's why we will only support it in a way that it does not break the compatibility with commonly used CPUs.

Best Regards,
Markus

A:
Icarus2 is 100% downward compatible with all previous versions. All existing song projects and patches can be loaded without any further steps necessary. The VST ID will remain the same.

Markus

please add /or it is already in the new version? a random button ;D i loved it in gladiator 2 and again it doesnt replace soundsets.... i hope it is really random cause some synth add this option and you get after 100 clicks same/similiar sounds :D

If Icarus 2 is already low on CPU, i don't think it really would benefit from additional performance through the use of a CPU extensions which not every CPU supports (even though the vast majority of CPU's does these days). Massive X, which is a very prominent example, is quite heavy on CPU, so, it makes sense there. Icarus 1 is pretty low on CPU, so, i really can't see any benefit in that regard.

How about microtuning?

There will be a random button on the top left.
Completely just randomizing everything results in 99% useless/quiet/glitchy sounds. So the synth needs some 'intelligence' when doing this.

Thx a lot! For example in gladiator 2 i had a lot of the same/similiar patches by randomizing a lot. So it kinda is not very random but still great for fun and surprises. As icarus2 will have much more under the hood i hope it is not like in gladiator that the results are often similiar.
Cannot wait to upgrade :tu:
