From "Everything" bundle to Sampletank 2XL -What d

Ok, so I'm a Logic user with access to EXS24 library and the Steinberg Hypersonic Virtual Instrument so I never paid a whole lot of attention to SampleTank. I saw the info on the recent group buy and figured that the price looked good for the samples alone, then ended up upgrading that to the "Everything" bundle.
Service from Sonic Reality was suberb and when the products arrived I was blown away. It sounds amazing. I think I'd have nearly paid that price for one of the piano patches I'm currently over-using! Anyway, butt kissing now over, I'm obviously thinking that SampleTank 2 XL should be on my shopping list but as I have some many sounds in it already (thnks to the bundle) I'm wondering what benefits it will offer? Are all the extra sounds much different from what I have? I'm not finding the "One instance" limit a real problem.
Cheers for any advice,
Gareth
P.S I "Think" I read a post somewhere about some of the sounds having corrupted files in them and the possibility of some replacement discs being sent out. Am I deluded or did I really read that? If so, do I need to register for the replacement discs?

As for the files, they aren't corrupted. It's just that Sonic Synth 1 was designed for ST1 before ST2 existed. There are about 23 patches (out of 500 or so) that have some upward compatibility issues with ST2 that's all. Those sounds work fine in the ST1 they were intended for. But, there are a few reauthoring tweaks we can do to each to make them compatible. We should have this on a CD we'll just send out to all SS1 group buy people, so you don't have to do anything it will just arrive. Another thing we are looking into is a downloadable option... but one way or another we'll update those patches and get them to everyone that wants them.
Anyway, the sounds in ST2 XL are different than the ones you have. In particular, the pianos are excellent as are a variety of meat & potatoes instruments such as brass, vocals, orchestral sounds and there are some nice loops in there too. It has a good cross-section of instruments and it is a great deal for 8 discs. But, the other features are what I think are really worth upgrading for too such as access to all 5 fx slots, ability to import samples from other formats and the multiple instances and other stuff.
You'll probably be happy with it. It enhances what you have. Good luck!
By the way, if you like the Everything Bundle and you want more sounds I HIGHLY recommend the Sonik Capsules. Those too are different sounds and they are even better than the ones in the Everything Bundle. At least they have more articulations, expressive qualities and are larger in size.

Cheers Squids, I ordered a ST2XL upgrade today. Two questions, though both are based on my experiences with ST2LE.
1) Any news on the "Fixed" samples yet? I seem to have developed a talent for choosing the ones that crash Logic!
2) If I have a fairly full Sample Tank (say 6 to 8 parts) then logic reads a 50% CPU meter (one CPU) on my Dual 2GHz G5, with the SampleTank track selected EVEN WHEN ITS NOT PLAYING! Is that right? It seems like a hell of a lot and I wouldn't have expected any actovilty at all if it's not in playback.
Cheers, Gareth

1. Yes, the fix disc is DONE! If anyone who bought SS1 from esoundz has bought any ST2 product (LE, L or XL) they can ask for the fix disc to be put into the package for free. Otherwise, all people who ordered the group buy as well as all people who ordered SS1 before AND any ST2 product from esoundz will AUTOMATICALLY be sent this fix/bonus disc (it actually has over 100 megs of extra free sounds in ST2 format plus the "fix" sounds). However, there are a LOT of these apparently. I didn't even realize how many. Well over a thousand. So, even though we have the disc done we have to wait for it to come back from press for it to be sent out to EVERYONE automatically (so it'll be another week before they all go out that way). We can make a one off for anyone who orders something however (since we can only do a limited quantity that way each day).
Anyway, the place to ask for the fix disc to be thrown into your next order is from sales@esoundz.com
I'd upload it for download but it is just too big. However, if you guys are desparate for a particular sound or two I can put those up there for you. Any requests? Anything you GOTTA have????
I'll put a handful up if you want. Pick from this list:

Oh. I forgot to answer that one. MAKE SURE you download the latest update! 2.0.6 (currently) from www.sampletank.com It may improve that (good idea to do generally).Jeez wrote:The effects are always running.gareth wrote:If I have a fairly full Sample Tank (say 6 to 8 parts) then logic reads a 50% CPU meter (one CPU) on my Dual 2GHz G5, with the SampleTank track selected EVEN WHEN ITS NOT PLAYING! Squids, cheers I've just DL'd it - 2.07 for LE! - and my upgrade to XL is on it's way from a dealer, so I'll still be wanting that new fixed sounds disc :-)
Jeez, that explains some hit but 50% of a 2GHz G5 chip for the limited number of FX that eight sounds would use? I don't see a hit like that from running stacks of Waves plugs accross 32 tracks of audio plus a Space Designer! I think there's more to this than meets the eye.....
Squids again, I know IK have said they are sorting out the Logic 7 AU validation for an update hopefully this month. Any chance they could take a brief peak at the CPU issue at the same time in case there is an actual problem there?
Cheers
gareth

If ST2 isn't Altivec-optimised, then 50% of one 2GHz G5 sounds reasonable, if a bit on the high side. What effects do you have activated?gareth wrote:Jeez, that explains some hit but 50% of a 2GHz G5 chip for the limited number of FX that eight sounds would use? Well I only have LE at the moment (part of the group buy) so I get the impression that I can only have the first two slots loaded and to a large extent, they are just loaded with whatever the presets call up! All I do is tweak the levels of the reverb, or shorten the time. I did turn up the compression value on some guitar parts and varied the eq.
Oh, and if SampleTank is not Altivec optimised....hey Squid, I got another suggestion for ya!!
Gareth
PS please excuse any huge ignorance about "full" usage of SampleTank, I'm hoping my XL upgrade will have a manual (the group buy package came with no paperwork at all) as I'm the kind of sad git that sits and reads them!!

It's my understanding that ST2LE loads ALL the effects from the preset (all five slots), the difference is that only the first three (including the EQ/Comp) are editable.gareth wrote:Well I only have LE at the moment (part of the group buy) so I get the impression that I can only have the first two slots loaded and to a large extent, they are just loaded with whatever the presets call up!
