Hey all, Im newish to the sequencer/music making world...but im getting along nicely

I make dance music and have purchased a couple percussion sample cd's

Now i load up some 1shot samples in battery fine.
but on one of the sample cd's theres aload of drum loops, Now how do i get them intime with my current tempo, so they loop seemlesly...

Do i have to buy another sampler or can i do it in battery, I tried the 'tune' setting on battery. but its really hard to get the Exact pitch right so it loops 100% normally it ends up out of sync minutes into the track

Im using cubase, Working with all softsynths, and using battery for drum sampling.

ANY help would be appreciated, as i'd love to incorporate a couple of these perc loops into my tracks for some extra drive/fullness.

thanks

Hi Pringle,

Couple of things you could do here.

What version of Cubase are you using? Theres an option in SX (sorry dont know about earlier versions) that lets you slice the audio into individual hits. You can then just drop em in time with your track.

Again with the slicing... in an audio editor - Audacity (because its free) for example, chop up the loop into individual sounds. Make a kit of the sounds in Battery and sequence away!

Or you could Time stretch/Pitch shift the audio loop to the correct tempo of your track - again Cubase or any 1/2 decent audio editor will let you do this.

I hope this helps - let us know how you get on?

... Oh and welcome to KvR!

Cheers,
Dave

you can use battery to loop loops - change the pitch settings to time settings, then snap the loop to play over the right amount of beats - it should be in the battery manual.
come on you ..... lets have some aphex acid.

Battery is great an all, but using it for loops seems like using a butter knife to cut down a forest tree!

Get something like Acid, Ableton Live, or Energy Xt to properly cut up and time stretch loops. Ableton and Acid can shift the pitch and time of loops independantly of each other - very handy!

Even though Energy XT does not have the more advanced time/pitch stretching features of Acid or Ableton, it is extremely capable in cutting up and restructuring loops.
