IT'S DEAD!
I just used it about an hour ago, seemed to be in good health. Shocking how quickly things can go downhill. :o
Context donkey, CONTEXT :smack:

Anyways I'm out. I don't believe the earth is flat and do believe guitar rig DEVELOPMENT (for people w/o context  ) is DEAD.

There will be no further updates. I'd happy to eat my words but it's not going to happen.

Here‘s one for you, Reggie:

All of donk’s song have historical context (apparently)

Me thinks you guys who think it's perfectly up to date are simply reacting to the "everyone jumped to Amplitube" part ;)

IT'S DEAD!
I agree. Looks like people are making this into something it's not about. I would be really really surprised if Guitar Rig is updated in the next couple years, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if it doesn't get fixed for future OS problems it might have.

NI have a history of abandoning software, there's plenty of evidence that Guitar Rig is on the way out, Rig Kontrol hardware is not longer supported, no new audio drivers, no support in Controller Editor. Ad in the 20% layoffs they just had and I think anyone taking any amount of time to examine the situation, it's not going to get any better from here.

Now this doesn't mean that it's not a viable piece of software right now, but counting on it to work 3 years from now might be a really really bad idea.

who worries about 3 years from now?
that seems like a pointless endeavour, we cant know what will happen that far in advance so why even care? it doesmt actually exist, all that exists is now and even that's gone by the time ive typed it :o

Not sure that I really care if it’s updated or not as it works fine as it is. I will go to real hardware for certain sounds, but GR is really good for certain sounds I don’t have available in hardware.

I’m not really looking for a carbon copy of popular hardware, as to me that kind of defeats the purpose of using software with all its capabilities to shape sound that aren’t really available with hardware.

"who worries about 3 years from now?"
I just stated my worry. Are you going to attempt to control my reactions? Sure, if something is dead or not doesn't matter to you. Cool. Why are you posting on this topic then?

Sometimes it's not just outright ad hominem that's disrespectful, sometimes it's discrediting and downplaying others concerns because they are not your concerns.

There are plenty of examples of plug ins and software that lasts, and related hardware that gets driver updates. NI aren't a company that you can say that about at all. No updates and dropping support for their hardware controllers related to Guitar Rig points to them dropping development. That's as objective as it gets, and if that bothers you come out and say it, but downplaying peoples concerns about that is just passive aggression.

I suppose that depends on which platform you use.

When GR5 came out, I remembered thinking that the two new amp sims failed to match up to the equivalents in my 1999 Boss GT-3.

Guitar Rig 5 was released 2011 and there's been no significant development since.

The included FX and the UI/workflow is nice but the amp modelling is woefully outdated, it wasn't even competitive back when it was released.

it's unfortunate NI stopped caring, because, if they wanted, they could make GR6 a breakthrough.

but they make Mokafix developer design GUI-s and do stupid sheet.

What have they abandoned in the past decade?
there's plenty of evidence that Guitar Rig is on the way out, Rig Kontrol hardware is not longer supported, no new audio drivers, no support in Controller Editor.
So what's the evidence that the Guitar Rig software is on the way out?
