most of my instruments are already named - incl. "black ark" for the dancehallsounds ... but i got a piccolo-snare now, because it can do the better roll (more dynamics)

... and for the "chuck" i dont take no longer the 'scarbee funk guitarist' (using only 4 strings is too funky) - i use the strumming mode of amplesounds telecaster (with percussive settings + guitarRigs jazz chorus) - i hope, there will be an update soon, especially amples reggae-presets should be improved!

Westfinga Plugins released Rubadrum a while ago, drum VSTi designed and tuned for reggae. This guy is a producer so he knows the sound he's after. He's working on an update to add more sounds. He has a percussion version as well. www.westfinga.com

For that mad professor style 80's and 90's dub, i prefer the lexicon PSP 42 delay. That x2 factor is sooo nice. Also the amount of feedback is around 99.9999999999%, which makes it awesome for very long delays without changing the type of the sound (which you will find on bbd, tape delays etc)

Guitar stabs you have to mute right after hitting the strings. Usually played on the 3 upper strings.

Dubs have simple chords like | Am | Dm | or | C | G | etc.

In fact you can play most popular songs with only two chords in reggae/dub/ska/dancehall style with a bit of fantasy.

Sorry, that's not Reggae - you need to use all your strings and you do a downstroke ...

... using the 3 upper strings its gettin too funky + using an upstroke its gettin calypso or ska ...

Reggae has many forms

But yeah, that classic roots rock reggae is usually played on all 6 strings. With, lots of the time, an extra upward stroke. Especially on shuffled reggae tracks.

true, u can even intimate a guitar by playin clav-sounds or miss out the "classic chuck" ... but usin 3 strings the sound is kinda thin ... btw the beat afterwards is often "played" by a delay ...

Any synth should work, however reggae is not very synth based IMO. You should consider getting some classic drum sounds or research for delay effects with focus on the genre instead, and if you want to get the free route I'd recommend OB-Xd synth

You can see many videos of riddim guitarists playing the upbeat themselves. No need for a delay
