So since this summer I've been getting into this hobby of creating some Hardcore Breakbeat stuff ever since i found The Prodigy Experience and Jilted. I've been able to recreate Sub Basses and Stabs n such, But my Breaks are totally lacking. Just don't sound good, I've tried to make two breaks, Acen's Trip 2 the moon and a Break from Future music CD but they just don't sound like they should. I've been Chopping the breaks, Compressing and almost everything but i just dont know whats wrong

Thats what i've made
What i'm trying to make

What are you using to chop and retrigger the samples? The timing seems all over the place in the clip you uploaded.

I used a cool vst called cyclone which is a old sampler that rendered the samples at then play the route note from that and resample that into a audio clip,i use regular ableton live chop function to chop the breaks as seen in this video

Not sure that's quite got the Prodigy touch yet. Start with the same break they did, "Hyperreal Selector" by The Shamen, find a good quality version of it (WAV/FLAC) and speed it up. Then perhaps add the "Peter Piper" scratches.

The Prodigy literally just stole the drums from someone else, sped them up a bit and added a few more sounds. I would start there. If you get there the next thing to do is to copy the sample in the sampler, truncate the copy so that the copy starts at the first snare, then use that to start changing the pattern a little.

Thank you so much for the reply,

When Liam Howlett first produced he started to just sample beats as seen in his hits like "Charly", but he then started to edit them in his W30.

I recreated the Out Of Space beat that he used with 3 bad mice's bombscare and Dance Hall Dangerous. I got the idea but no cigar when I tried it myself :?

I will try the "Hyperreal Selector" and see what results I can get but i'm trying to go for the old style of doing it, For example speeding up a break in a sampler and speeding it back down type of style to really get that old skool effect :phones:

Yip, as others have said; Prodigy (earlier stuff anyway) is a lot more extremely modified samples than it is synths and drum machines... quite interesting actually. (Smack My Bitch Up is actually an old song of theirs that took a long time to make it to an album)

Ah yes SMBU the goat of all of them all.

I love the Beat in it, So much power. The beat sounds the exact same. Did he Transpose on the beat?

All this Jungle stuff is confusing :?

Yip, he's taken a crispy old sample and put his own modern kick and snake over it. That's pretty easy, find a breakbeat loop (or whatever), eq it and add some saturation, maybe even mono it, then double the beat with a punchy/modern kick and snare, and even add other percussion elements. :tu:

Sweet! Thanks!

Sadly the only downside I have is my DAW, Its Ableton Live 10 Lite which means i have only a couple of effects n such like Saturation and EQ eight. If you know of any good VSTs let me know, Thinking about upgrading this holiday season.

So I did what you asked with the "Hyperreal Selector" and "Peter Piper" scratch and it came out great. Even added my own 909 layered drums and the Acid Trip thing liam howlett did back in the day when playing this track live.

and on totally separate note, I saw this excellent movie a couple of nights ago. It's Scottish, and set in 1994, about doing drugs and going to raves, so it had a couple of old Prodigy songs on the soundtrack.

I saw it in our (New Zealand's) International Film festival, so yeah, it's a festival film, you wont see it at the regular cinemas. It'll be on Netflix or something eventually.
