So I've got S49 Komplete Kontrol mk2 keyboard to check things with Kontakt. The lightguide is like Christmas tree, boy it's so much fun... For about an hour when you find out that you cannot turn it off. At all. :x

Now, these are seriously bright, I love the idea but it's a torture to spend more time with. It's seriously dumb that you have no kontrol over the lighting... Anyway, as usual, I tried to deal with the problem by scripting. In Kontakt script you have full control over key colors, so it's no big deal to just remove all coloring. I tinkered this little script which paints all keyboard white, which results in leds going off when you have Kontakt loaded in Komplete Kontrol. If there's an empty script slot in an instrument, I can just load preset script into it and problem solved. Then I started goofing around with key colors, so it would look even more like a Christmas tree. It looks like this...

Just a quick hack job, but you can grab the script here if you like: http://www.fairlyconfusing.net/docs/light_kontrol.rar
Copy preset file to ...Documents\Native Instruments\Kontakt\presets\Scripts or copy paste text into script editor.

BTW if you just hook up the keyboard via USB instead of with power supply, LEDs and displays will be dimmer.

I do not even have power supply, USB it is. So it's even brighter with PSU :o

I prefer the Mk1 series for this. Somewhat less intrusive.

Turn on the lights in your room, it's better for eyes ;)

This is a problem I can solve. Just send that pesky Christmas tree of a keyboard to me. I promise you'll never be bothered by it again. We're all friends here, and friends look out for each other!

Yeah, you could edit the keyboard map and assign colors, pick "black" and you are done. But as ED mentioned editor doesn't work with Mk2. The function is now integrated into KK, but "black" as a color is missing from the list.

EDIT: Oh wait, you wanted them off. :dog:

Maybe play it backwards then. :P
My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

If you think the lights are bad, wait till it starts talking to you. And just try to shut it up.

I wish I had a keyboard with Lightguide. It would be great, if I could tell at a glance where all the keyswitches and such are located, without having to squint at Kontakt on my monitor. :)

I keep my room lights on when I play. I don't think the "light show" would bother me one bit.

As for the original poster, have you tried a neat and tidy application of black electrical tape? ;)

And when I do want the lights back I peel it off? :D As I said, I do like the feature, though in majority of cases you don't need the light-guide or instrument does not support it and there it is anyway. The script solution works for me, and it's is fun for fx flash show.
Then actually, I see a business opportunity here, the lights area is angled and there is a little space between lights and keys, a plastic cover would fit there nicely...

Yeah. Maybe you could cut out a thin strip of transparent gray plastic, to filter and darken the light? It might be something you could easily put on the keyboard and remove it whenever you want?
