I know it's not good, I'm just learning.
Midi notes a little off and not quite same range but good try if your just learning

Ive attached the midi file and the massive X and UA lion presets I used, so you can get exact same sound.
download/file.php?mode=view&id=25139&si ... c9668dfbc3

See if you can tweak lion preset to have a nice punch/snap, any attempts I do just end in a supershort clicky mess or allowing way to much sound through and losing all punch.

Till someone shows me otherwise I have to assume Lion just doesn't have good filters/envelopes as being able to make them punchy/snappy is pretty standard feature of all quality synths

I don't know the particular sound you're talking about, but this "psychoacoustic trick" would be my first port of call.
Its a good trick to layer white noise but i was just testing how punchy lion was with a single sawtooth wave and basic LP24 filter. No tricks here

Heres an example using massive x....

I dont know if its the filters or the envelopes or the settings but UA Lion doesnt seem to be able to do a basic snappy pluck sound. Which is a shame because the rest of the synth is amazing!
I hear you mate.

I just had the second arp sequence an octave higher than yours by accident. I wasn't trying to exactly match your playing though I was more focused on the sound design. I'll take a look at your presets, thanks. I find it all very interesting.

OK I've set my filter in Lion identical to yours. I'm using the master envelope to mod the cutoff of the filter, not using a separate one.

My settings are:

amp 100
attack 0.002
decay 0.116
sustain 0.084
release 0.949
depth 51.2%

I've tried it side by side with your settings and mine sounds snappier to me

yes your right i'm also getting a slightly snappier sound using master envelope but its still a 5% improvement over the 100% we need!

This is not a massive X vs lion thread, you can get this snappy/punchy envelopes in most other synths as well just not lion.

My guess is they went nuts on the oscillators/mixing engine's and did an amazing job but didn't get enough time to really work on and test the boring basics like envelopes and filters.

heres to hoping they work on this in a update..............Im not even going to ask for an MSEG yet!

I just saw this has full MPE support. If someone has a code they aren't using I'd love to use it. I am suddenly way more interested in this vst.

Anyone else having trouble getting his or her hands on Paul Nolan's 21 free presets offered to registered owners via email?

The link provided is one of these BS multiple-redirect thingies that I never have much luck with. It gets stuck on, I think, the 3rd redirect, which is the trackcmp.net one.

Tried disabling Little Snitch and adblockers but no luck...

Am I allowed to do this ?

Thank you mate!

Yeah, I'd say you're allowed to 'cause the presets wouldn't do anyone without LION any good, and the email looks like it went out to all LION owners.

Been tearing my hair out trying to get to whatever page the link is supposed to lead to. IMHO PA should've just placed the download in our accounts area under "Manage Registered Plugins".

Thank you so much again.

Or they could have just updated the download for Lion.

Post

thanks!
they're quite nice imho - like them

Post

btw,
is the preset browser resizable?
right now, here, it's just quite a small stripe (about 7 entries)
would be nice if i could resize it in the y-axis

i can drag the preset-browser window, but that's about it...

further on, in re preset browser:
it looks like i could resize the collumns (mouse becomes a double-arrow)
but it doesn't seem to work
i can rearrange the collumns though

and 3rd but not least:
there is a category called "Description"
but i seem not to be able to enter something in there
would be great though imho...

for example i made a few presets (with ringo) that preferrable
should be played in the very hi registers (c6-c8)
would like to put this info in a description - kinda notepad

and...:
cursor up/down seems to work (even in logicX) to select a preset,
but it does not load the preset,
nor does return (or enter) work for loading...
so, the cursor-scrolling aka computer-keyboard-navigation is nice, but not really working...

I meant to suggest that option too. Thanks man.

It's the obvious one, but given how seldom the full downloads are updated, I figured they could have at least placed it into the "Manage Registered Plugins" section of our accounts, where it'd logically appear when we click the "expand" (+) button for LION.

That way they'd still get to provide a short blurb about how lucky we are / how generous they are without it's being buried in the preset menu, where of course they could remind us again by labelling the bank as a free one from PA.

Post

Sorry if I have missed something obvious, but isn't it possible to set a default size for the GUI? Every time I load Lion (in Bitwig by the way, on MacOS Mojave) it defaults to it's smallest size. So I have to drag it to a larger size and press the wide button every time. Rather annoying.
