Coming Soon: Izotope Ozone 9

The trick with Izotope is to stay strong, withstand temptation, and take the plunge when upgrade/crossgrade offers are comparatively cheap.. because they inevitably herald a new game-changin' version that's just around the corner. I got Ozone 8 advanced for 80 $... well worth it. It's a great mixing tool as well, which prompts the question: why should I get Neutron? I don't use the magic wand features at all...
Great tools, annoying marketing. Must be working for them, so who am I to talk?

I hope that's not it. I've always used Ozone after I've exported the project as an audio file, so there'd be no way for Ozone to have any kind of knowledge of the individual channels or what plugins are inserted on each. Manually inserting some kind of mini-Ozone on each track would get very tedious, and using Ozone without first rendering the song to an audio file would absolutely murder my CPU...jochicago wrote: Wed Sep 25, 2019 6:56 pm Real-time instrument separation, isn't that just Neutron? So maybe a new per-track plugin to neutron-up the track but linked to Ozone? There's so much overlap in these products, I would really like a comprehensive presentation to understand why every tool has a slightly different eq and comp. But it does make sense for a mastering tool to have a per-track instance so it can make cleaner adjustments. I'm just looking forward to hearing the marketing speak to explain how Ozone Track Majestificator is not just slim Neutron with a few randomly different controls.
For me, that has always been the distinction between Ozone and Neutron - Ozone: Mastering tool for completed projects/songs - Neutron: Mixing plugins with lower latency/CPU, to be inserted on each channel/bus while producing and mixing a song.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

Finally! Now just add CPU optimizations from Neutron 3 and we're good to go
As much as I love Izotope products, Ozones delivers too few features for too much. No wonder people skip upgrades.

Here's hoping the 2.1 crew get a reasonable saving this time. They always manage to price it just outside what i feel is acceptable.

My guess is that real time instrument separation will come from some sort of demasking tool for the master bus. Kind of like how Gullfoss can intelligently increase separation or demask instruments when placed on the stereo bus. The current version, Ozone 8 can already communicate with per track instances of Neutron 3 for mastering purposes.jochicago wrote: Wed Sep 25, 2019 6:56 pm Real-time instrument separation, isn't that just Neutron? Personally I think there is enough distinction between Neutron and Ozone. The one I'm not so sure about is Nectar as it overlaps quite a bit with Neutron.

Ozone 4-5 were the best ones. It's worth keeping hold of your copy even if/when you upgrade, as they have changed all the modules in the new ones.

I don't find Ozone is that good but it is handy for sure if you wanna get a quick result that sound "radio-like".
The sound gets brighter and a little harsh as you push them I'd still rather use a vast collections of plugins. There's no magic pills for me unless you want your mix to sound like everybody else's.
Pass..

Ozone is a tool like everything else. It does exactly that what you want it to do. If you know how to do it.

Interesting observation. IMO Ozone makes mixes / masters a bit (too) dark. When you compare it to Newfangled Elevate it sounds a bit muffled.Skyfall72 wrote: Thu Sep 26, 2019 7:33 pm The sound gets brighter and a little harsh as you push them

Isn't that a kinda unfair comparison though, since the Elevate limiter has up to 26 frequency bands? ^^Calenberger wrote: Thu Sep 26, 2019 7:42 pmInteresting observation. Imho the sound depends mostly on the EQ settings in Ozone since the limiter is good for pushing, but not as flexible in terms of soundshaping.
