Quite a list of fixes and enhancements. I love the fact that they correspond with forum users. Civil behavior on the part of the latter allows that. Just saying...

Noel and his team are doing a great job, and the transparency with which they communicate in the forum on a daily basis is worth of respect.jonljacobi wrote: Wed Sep 25, 2019 11:05 pm Quite a list of fixes and enhancements. I must say that I had given this program up for dead about 10 years ago. Very glad to see it's not only been resuscitated, but being improved and modernized at a substantial rate.

I didn't try the early access, but the stable version. I installed it and it works! It seems better than before! This is a puzzle! After all these years and money spent, it never worked stable. But It works for free now! What's the catch of making it free?
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

I don’t think there’s a catch as such, just one part of a strategy to develop an musical megacorp/fabric. The price was probably right, the program salvageable, and probably all in all, cheap advertising. Whatever the deal, it surprised the heck out of me. I just thought they’d trundle along for a while, then give up on it. Nice to be wrong.

I'm also happy to be wrong with my crystal ball future reading
it was sad to say goodbye to cakewalk some years ago and it was sad to see how management did killed (or almost killed) such popular DAW.
Anyway, I hope the best to bandlab and I hope they get the midi right and enhance it. This is the key imo that the previous management chose to ignore.
Well, it is tough to compete again with such fine DAWs these days, but with careful and smart planning, cakewalk can retain its place as one of the main DAWs in Windows. I already have my main DAW, but as a previous Sonar user (since Sonar 4 up to X3), it's easy to be productive in Cakewalk again. Not sure if I want to switch to it now, as I'm really happy with another DAW, but cakewalk can be my 2nd DAW and I would be happy to support it again with my wallet as well (if it is reasonably priced, not like the craziness with Gibson was)

Nah, i guess they're just looking for customers for their service.

Good catch, but anyway have you tried it? It seems really good especially for those who used Sonar beforeNah, i guess they're just looking for customers for their service.

Same here. Although at some point there will be a paid upgrade to Studio One v5 if you want to continue receiving improvements and fixes, while Cakewalk will likely continue to provide them for free.chk071 wrote: Thu Sep 26, 2019 7:50 am I didn't try it. If i was looking for a free host to start with, i'd look no further. But, i'm settled with Studio One now, so, i don't see a reason to stray.![]()
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

I'm really surprised! Anyway, I have started a new little project with it. I'll use it these days and see how it goes
For now, my nektar impact lx+ is working great and there is also a definition file for my casio px5s (only exist for sonar and cubase, that list all the presets names ..etc, like an old school midi
). The CPU usage seems great as well. Overall, it might be the Cakewalk I have been waiting for. It is good to be back from hell

I have to agree with the previous comments: the development team are doing a great job with bug squashing and stability with this DAW.
Other DAW vendors should take note - this is what can be achieved without short-sighted commercial pressure to bolt-on gimmicky new features too quickly, at the expense of stability, bug-fixes and proper regression testing

Well... i doubt that the Cakewalk devs can lean back, twiddle their thumbs, and play Poker now.
Of course there is commercial pressure. Bandlab is a commercial platform, and the Cakewalk devs are getting paid. And, Cakewalk will surely also get new features. So, i really don't see much of a difference to other DAW's, or DAW development.
Besides, i doubt that the folks at Bandlab want to offer a incomplete, buggy DAW. So, yeah, there is the same commercial pressure as for any other commercial software. Which is good. Because that's the main ingredience of quality software.
