Hello you Ableton fans.

I'm not understanding what you mean by "compared to actuall DAWs". Live is an actual DAW ...

One crude way to think about it:

Suite 10: 600 Eur > Suite 9 50% cut: 300 EUR > Suite 8 another 50% cut: 150 EUR

Standard 10: 350 Eur > Standard 9 50% cut: 175 EUR > Live 8 another 50% cut: 87.5 EUR

(Edit:)

Links to the launch press releases of 8 and some 9 versions.

For 9.5, 9.7, 10 and 10.1 I couldn't find a simple press-release page, in Ableton's site (https://www.ableton.com/en/press/) the press releases for those come in rather large files with PDFs and graphics, better just google.

I think he means current versions of DAWs. Like compared to version 10.

It depends on what you want to use Live 8 for. It's missing quite a lot of features and improvements.

I personally wouldn't buy it for any price. Get at least 9 for that amount of money or get a cheap version 10 from buy/sell. At least find out how much the upgrade price is to version 10.

Big gotchas: Windows 10 compatibility (probably even worse for MacOS) and HiDPI.

(Edit:)

Long term, I think you can get an used Live 10 license here on KVR for same or less than "80 EUR + Upgrade from 8 to 10".

Maybe. If it’s a good serial number and you can use it to eventually upgrade to the most current version (which is usually around $300). You maybe should talk to Ableton about that too. You know, they are up to 10. I don’t know how far back Ableton offers their archived versions for support or download. If you really want a good inexpensive DAW, maybe look at Reaper or Renoise. Fl Studio, Studio One, and Bitwig (pretty close to Live) go on sale frequently...at least more frequently than Live does. There’s a lot to be said for having up to date software, at least in terms of features and developer support. There are probably a few guys up here still running Live 8 and Windows XP/Vista. Maybe one of them can chime in. That’s just never the way I worked

The upgrade for 8 to 9 was decent (not amazing IMO). Unless you are using an old 32 bit OS? It might be worth investigating if you could get by on Live Light instead (if you want the Live ecosystem). If you’re just wanting to DAW up there’s Reaper ($60US) and often good deals on Studio One in the marketplace.

Yes, it's a very sweet piece of software.
