For me its about familiarity, I've been a Reason user since V3 and knowing the interoperability of the rack and specifics with devices makes it a no brainier. Having said that I gave up on Reason months ago as a DAW and went all-in with Cubase, but its going to be very helpful having it back as a familiar tool.reggie1979 wrote: Tue Oct 01, 2019 12:33 am I have to say, as appealing as having the rack in another host can be, it's just so unnecessary to me. I mean, we all have capable synths and effects, right?
Have you tried Vital?

Yeah my older version and the beta each using their own soundbanks made space tight on a 128GB SSD even after I uninstalled both, so had to delete them from C:/ProgramData/Propellerheads folder. I've been trying to use physical modelling synths after hearing what Pianoteq do with 40MB, Reason's Radical Piano is fairly light at under 400MB though. MODO Drum on the other hand uses 11GB for it's cymbals, I'll maybe need to try some of this link voodoo for it. I've also got 11GB worth of a reverb plugin too to test due to it's IRs but these things happen I guess. Anything I can to avoid using a noisy external hard drive with a fanless Surface helps, although a cheap camera micro sd card might do the job.Richard_Synapse wrote: Mon Sep 30, 2019 11:55 amI noticed this as well, since my SSD is pretty crowded, and Reason actually consumes a whopping 14 GB in total on my C: drive due to older versions. On the upside, Reasons now supports multi-threaded VST plugins like DUNE 3 which is great!bharris22 wrote: Mon Sep 30, 2019 11:08 am When I ran the installer, Reason 11 did, in fact, ask me for two different install locations: one for the "program", and another for the VST. This fact demonstrates that they do recognize that some customers would like to install to a location other than C. What good reason could there be that only 350 Mb of the "program" is installed into the user-selected location, while more than 3.5 Gb is installed into unknown locations on C without any user input? I like Reason very much, but I really wonder why people blindly defend the company and these types of half measures. So they do listen to feature requests, and it is likely this installer issue will get addressed soon (especially since it is fairly easy to implement).

With the Reason VST and main DAW having their own installs does anyone know if I can remove the DAW safely? Or do I just hope that DAWs one day opt for compact resynthsis of all their samples I'll rarely/never use? (FL installer annoys me with this as well, every beta).
I never noticed the separate option to install Reason's VST but found it used CommonFiles/VST3 and noticed I'd missed making a direct preset for loading Alligator on it's own - that's me finished adding them all as individuals to FL's menu system (might be a cool installer option to save anyone ever having to do that), I'll maybe work on some Plugin Picker .PNGs now, and then template starting presets within each instrument/effect...

I'm starting to really enjoy Reason 11.
Automation curves may be old hat but the fact that they're overdue doesn't make them any less useful now they're here!

I'm curious about this too.whannel wrote: Tue Oct 01, 2019 8:33 am With the Reason VST and main DAW having their own installs does anyone know if I can remove the DAW safely?
Does Reason 11 scatter files all over the hard drive, or is generally easy to track everything done if you want to do a complete uninstall?

Companies like this will usually do everything to not be dragged in front of a judge as a conviction would ruin their business model. Just ask a lawyer to send a letter to RS and they'll most likely instantly transfer the ownership of the software - just because of goodwill of course.

Lawyers aren’t free. Mine charges $250 USD an hour, and drawing up any sort of letter would take at least that.Benutzername wrote: Thu Oct 03, 2019 1:34 am Companies like this will usually do everything to not be dragged in front of a judge as a conviction would ruin their business model. They don't have their own installs. It's just one application that puts different components in different folders. Like most apps, in fact.whannel wrote: Tue Oct 01, 2019 8:33 amWith the Reason VST and main DAW having their own installs does anyone know if I can remove the DAW safely?
But why won't you take one for the team and check?

Good shout, I moved the C:/ProgramData/Propellerhead Software 2GB+ Factory Sound Bank to a new folder and tried to load it but it failed, then I copied the 100MB Reason Patch Collection from the same folder and renamed it Factory Sound Bank and it loads the synths fine. Presumably any file with the name Factory Sound Bank.rfl will do the job for anyone short on space who doesn't need the samples.antic604 wrote: Thu Oct 03, 2019 1:22 pmThey don't have their own installs. now that they seem to be able to offer a vst version of their catalog ,
i await the decision to offer individual items for sale as a vst ...
i'd be interested in 'complex' , but not much else ...

Given that they tried that first with the release of the Europa VST last year, I would doubt that they will. Perhaps they might release a “player” version of the rack, but I kinda doubt that as well.experimental.crow wrote: Thu Oct 03, 2019 9:05 pm now that they seem to be able to offer a vst version of their catalog ,

Yeah, it's cool and everything, It's just not for me. Reason is my number one, others don't have to agree, it's great to have choices!
