DAW makers do not publish sales stats. The OP is talking about overall popularity when he says "Ableton is everywhere". So am I. In my opinion anyway Bitwig is also getting quite popular since v3.

No. Reaper is powerful for editing and mixing. Not so good for writing, jamming or composing.

where does it all go? cant all be gnomes, or the kid at the laundrette (yes, i do suspect they steal and wear my underwear).

Just make sure there is a good skid mark in every pair - that pretty much guarantees that no one will steal them.
