I really like Kerovee - it's a well laid out , easy to figure plugin - and it works really well

however I have/had a problem with distortion (or artefacts as sometimes called) - on the processed signal/s -
the sound can be quite rough - especially on "s's and "f's"

I just found however that this can be improved greatly by reducing the level of the ingoing signal -

what I would like to know is - is this a known problem? - is there a maximum recommended input level? - also does the master volume work on the input or output signal?

Also does anybody have any other recommendations for improving the quality?

hi,
yes, Kerovee may be too sensitive to over-level.
In addition, that also depends on the 'Formant' and 'Pitch' settings. Probably this goes bad when low-formant / high-pitch settings.

currently, I don't have a established recommended level but I would like to do improvement when I have time.

The latest build of Kerovee sounds like a sample rate reducer, it sounds really wrong.

Hello,
hmmm...Is the problem occur regardless of the formant or transpose settings?
Can you send the sample (original) voice because the quality may depends on original voice characteristics.

I don't touch the formant stuff, only the scales at the left.

Right now it's loaded in Savihost and squealing, even though there is no input. I don't think it has to do with my voice, but here is a test file I use to test vocal software(wav exported to mp3 because I am on a slow internet connection), it does squeal with as input, also w/live vocals.

I use either a Behringer dynamic mike or a Behringer condensor into an M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface, the previous Kerovee builds all worked normally.

Thank you :)
It is great help of investigation.

I think the squealing is caused by very low freq noises. It seems be a side effect of my parameter tuning for pitch stability. tentatively, it will be improved if I cutoff under 80Hz (even it is not yet perfect).

anyway, I need a little more time for investigation and improvement.
Thank you

Hello,
I have updated KeroVee (and RoVee)

KeroVee 1.61
http://www.g200kg.com/en/software/kerovee.html
* Fix squealing when low freq noise input.

RoVee 1.21
http://www.g200kg.com/en/software/rovee.html
* Fixed: value editing from keyboard is not functional
* Fine adjustment of noise suppressing

Hi g200kg,

first many thanks for this wonderful tool. Since I use it a lot, I'd just like to know few background info;
Which shifting algorithm is used and is there room for improvement, as one can see Kerovee as a first real and best poor-man's vocal harmony generator (harmonies triggered via midi, of course). Already now results are very good, but you know, we aim at "Tc" quality, but next to free ;)

So, any plans on shifting algorithm and/or intelligent harmony implementation. I wouldn't mind if it becomes nice-price-tagged commercial product with such functionallity...

Cool, it seems to be working normally now. I see you can pitch it by scale and MIDI simultaneously now, not sure if that is a new feature.

Hi,

I am utilizing one of a kind time-domain processing for shifting. That has a characteristics of very clear formant tweaking but I know that may not generate best quality in some cases.

Though I have no plan of replacing shifting engine currently, I think that might be improvable by some kind of STFT based shifting. Anyway it will takes certain amount of time.

i know this post is old but i still love kerovee so here's my approach about the distortion if anyone's interested: i just cut off the highend a lot and use the dry highend in parallel. that way it feels much cleaner and not too untuned as well
