MDrummer realisticity

Hi guys!
I've been watching the MDrummer vids avidly and I'm learning so many cool things! I'm not sure if you've done a video on the Drumset Editor yet but I had a question on Realisticity and Super-realisticity (I think those are what they are called).
I imported a sample set from Reverb for the Ludwig drum kit and there are only one one-shot sample for each drum, so naturally there was a machine-gun effect. I set Realisiticy and Super-realisticity to 100% and instantly noticed it sounded MUCH better. Am I right in thinking these settings apply to single samples as well as multisamples? What do these two features actually do? Am I imagining things?

Hi,
thank you!
Yes, this is a quite complex processing that makes each hit slightly different, so you can apply it on any drum source, sampling or synthesized

Hey, I have to admit that I barely can hear any difference, when using these two settings - even on max. There is a tiny difference, for sure. Still: maybe it would be possible to let the user crank the knobs up even more? Or will it then be too obvious what these knobs are doing under the hood and the magic might be gone?

It depends on the drums. For multisampled drums you wouldn't hear much difference, because the consecutive samples themselves are different. But for static single samples, it makes a huge difference imho. For backwards compatibility I cannot crank it up more I'm afraid. Also imho it would start sounding like multiple drums

Hi guys again! I went back into the studio and indeed Realisticity and Super-realisticity work great when playing the rhythms from within MDrummer, but when I switch to drum pad mode and trigger using my e-drums my single-shot Ludwig samples seem to sound exactly the same with each hit. There is no variation whatsoever! Do the Realisticity options not apply to being triggered by external MIDI? This is not a "dealbreaker" for me, as MDrummer Studio packs are excellent anyway, but I wondered if this was a bug?

Hmmm, I just checked and it seems working fine. There shouldn't be any difference no matter "what" plays the note.garrettendi wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2019 8:02 am Hi guys again! Sorry extra clarification: the velocity changes but nothing else!
I’ll take another look next time I’m in the studio but it was very puzzling for me and didn’t sound pleasant but as I say the rhythms inside MDrummer were spot on.
Is it possible I was playing too slow for realisticity to keep up? Yet when I played fast there was the issue as well

Now that I think of it, I wonder if there are other settings in my Drumset that could be causing this machine gunning effect when played on the e-kit? Maybe I should take a look at the Input MIDI Filter?

I would record a simple MIDI line with your e-kit and see if there is anything special send over MIDI, which might be odd.

As I said, the rhythms should be playing exactly the same way as you kit. Try using a loop in MDrummer and drag & drop it to your DAW, so that it becomes MIDI and see what it does. However note that by default there's some humanization in the MDrummer rhythm system as well. So perhaps you need to lower the humanization to 0% to hear how the realisticity sounds.

That’s a good idea. Next time I’m in the studio I’ll give it a try!
