Tonight I've discovered two artists of note. Both have numerous albums available on eMusic.
Patricia Spero, harpist into world music and traditional stuff:

Phil Thornton / Hossam Ramzy, world music synthesists; Thornton also has many solo albums of note. So far I can say he's a modal melodic monster with great percussion:
