I hate going into Long&McQuade. Bunch of sleazy hard-sales types or braindead idiots (go ask for some help with the synths). Well, of course, and the prerequisite arrogant music shop guys, too.
Lovely folk in the violin section, though, don't think they get many people up there. Last time I was there, I swear had I stayed 5 minutes longer they would have offered me tea.

The only thing worse than going into their 'main store' (Ossington/Bloor) is going into their wee little Parking Lot there!
Why they don't turn that into a outdoor cafe where all the wannabees and losers waiting for their credit to clear can sit there and smoke all day, I don't know?

But then no one would be left to get in your way when you're trying to check out gear.Steven West wrote:Why they don't turn that into a outdoor cafe where all the wannabees and losers waiting for their credit to clear can sit there and smoke all day, I don't know?![]()

Ah, f**k it! If Steve's can survive all this time without parking - I 'm going there.
Are we all named Steve in this city, or what?

Oh, come on; you know the classic joke, don't you? Canada Post charges $0.49 to mail a letter. That's $0.01 postage and $0.48 storage. Get it? Get it? Because it takes so damn long for them to get anything anywhere - it must be mostly storage they're charging for!Steven West wrote:And don't let Canada Post rape you either. (Storage Fees?)
Here's a great story about Canada Post's inefficiency. Two letters mailed out from downtown Vancouver to two suburbs. Both suburbs take 30/45 minutes to drive to. One letter arrived THREE DAYS later than the other.
I've been keeping track of the package's "progress." Thursday night it was received. Friday night it was looked at. That is all.

How can you possibly have expected $10 cans to sound any good?

I've looked at the Apex 460, and it's sitting up in the top of my list of budget microphones to buy. Comes with PSU and selectable pattern.
Since my other 2 budget choices (the Studio Projects B1 and the Behringer B1) aren't rated all that highly, either, I don't know that I'll notice the difference from one version of 'cheap-ass' to the other.

Because the $10 cans were originally $20 to begin with.
Plus, I'm too lazy to get my nice Sennheiser cans fixed. (Stupid pads are like trying to find truffles in kitty litter.
)
Okay, I see what you mean Pough.
I got no bone with Canada Post myself - Canada Customs, I'd like to use as 'personal mic case', if you know what I mean?

Thanks pough for the clarification on the graph. I wasn't looking closely enough. It does seem good. Hmmm, one or two?
On Apex, I got the 430 large diaphram mic and am very happy with it. I've compared it to a friend's MAudio mics and it seems to be the same. I got the mic, a cable and the taxes for under two hundred $s so I figure it was good value. The darker sound of the KEL is interesting though. I was trying to record my daughter's sax playing and found the Apex to be sort of fizzy. I wound up with my old Sennheiser MD421 and it sounded great.
For what it's worth Long and McQuade are a pain out here in Western Canada too. We had a nice local store that got franchised back in their big expansion. You can't communicate with anyone there anymore. Out here they don't stock much, so they are basically an order counter to me. That's why I sometimes bring up the topic of the lack of Canadian music web stores. I've been to the shops in Toronto and at least you can go in and demo all the great new stuff. They survive here because they have the lowest prices.

Which Long and McQuade? I have a friend who works at the Downtown Vancouver one, so I can at least get some decent service there. I also have a friend who works at the downtown Tom Lee. Maybe you should check out Tom Lee. I think they guarantee the lowest price.
The thing about L&M is their sales staff is non-commission. So they just don't give a f**k. I've heard stories about them telling customers that they don't have a certain product just because they want the customer to go away. They send the annoying customers to Tom Lee.

Try to look at it from my point of veiw--at least you guys HAVE stores! Live on Kauai for a few years if you want to learn what starving to death is like--no music stores here.
I made my son take me to Frye's and to Guitar Center and Sam Ash when I visted him last month in Hollywood (drove right past that Jack in the Box someone mentions in his sig). It's like I was sucking up the store air trying to take it home with me. Hardware! Software! EVERY WARE!
Pough--Why are you going to Japan without me?

Greeting all and Mr. pough sir,
I have been looking all over the Internet to find one person who has actually tried this mic. Someone over at the nTrack forum,
http://ntrack.com/ntrackforum/index.html
stumbled on your thread.
So now we are waiting for your reaction too.
You could sell a pile of mics for KEL, or not I guess, depending on your reaction.
Thanks,
Doug W

Have a nice time in Japan, everyone!
