First post here. I have a JX10 with a vecoven firmware installed. The JX10 is now compatible with Jx8P tone Sysex and I can actually receive JX8P sysex patches.
I have stumbled upon PG-8X and I'm stunned by its closeness to the real thing. I have tried some very nice and convincing patches I would like to export to the JX10
I have tried the SYSEXpreset export function of the pg-8x, but my JX10 cannot read those.
Am I missing Something ? Is it even possible ?

Have you tried first to import some native JX-8P sysex files made with a real JX-8P ?
For example these:

(they are not from me, they are from D-Collector, here)
If you fail then it would mean that there is something weird in the importation feature of the JX10 devices (or of yours).
But if you success in importing these sysex files above (made with a true JX-8P) but can't from syex files made with PG-8X it would mean that there is somewhere a difference not yet discovered by Martin between the sysex files from a true JX-8P and the sysex files from PG-8X, a small difference to find which would be without any importance for the JX-8P (we know that it works with a JX-8P) but which would prevent the JX10 to import them.
Then perhaps Martin could find that difference by comparing these files...
I invite you to make that experiment, by trying to import the sysex linked above and see if it works of not.

BUT : PJ8X tones individually exported with SYSEX preset won't load in my JX.
As you said, I suspect there is a small difference between the 2 kind of syx files.
That's too bad because , PG8X is among the very best free software available and I reckon it will soon provide tons of great user made banks.

Perhaps we could try to analyze in a hex editor (PSPad for example)...
- a single preset in a sysex coming coming from the JX-10
- a similar single preset in a sysex coming from the JX-8P (which works on the JX-10)
- a similar single preset in a sysex coming from the PG-8X

Yes, this is definitely the next step.
I think the best way is to import a JX8P file into PG8X , then export it and compare.
Will do that as soon as I have some time to spare

I have just compared the 2 sysex files :
# 1 is an original JX8P tone, I can transmit it to my JX10 and open it in PG8X
#2 is the same previous sysex file opened in PG8X and saved to SYSEXpreset format. I can't open it anymore with the JX10.
I have opened both file with MIDI-OX in order to look at the hexa content. It turns out they are a bit different and dont have the same lenght

There are actually two sysex messages there in #1, whereas there's only one in #2.

Oddly, despite the differences and the missing bytes in the first part of the message, both files will have exactly the same result/sound when loaded in PG8X
Of course as a Dr. Frankenstein wannabe, I have tried (without success obviously) to hybrid the short sysex with the 2nd part of the big one.

Ok.. problem solved, (not the mystery of EvilDragon true nature, sorry about that).
My JX 10 is now reading PGX8 file like a champ !
I have simply asked Mr. Frederic Vecoven, the coding genius who wrote the new JX10 firmware.
He has sent me in return a new release of the firmware featuring a JX8P-PG8X import menu.
It's working great , the JX 10 is really an analog beast, for those who wonder, the JX10 is actually 2 JX8P in 1 board; It behaves like a 12 voice JX8P or a 6 voice bitimbral JX8P
