Logic Pro X not sending audio input to stereo output (even though it's selected)?

I have an odd audio problem happening with Logic Pro X this morning.....

I have been playing and monitoring soft synths but wanted to add some vocals.
I am using a Scarlett 2i2 interface.

I have everything set up and can see it monitoring in the fader for the channel (input 2). The channel level is good and the output is selected as 'stereo output'.... but no level showing in the stereo out? I cannot monitor my vocals? I can record then it plays back fine. I just cannot monitor. I have gone through my usual troubleshooting checklist but cannot see the issue, it's probably something simple though! I've also tried with my electric guitar and cannot monitor through the software either?

Can anybody shed some light on what I need to do please?

Thank you.

Do you want to hardware or software monitor your vocals?

Did you activate audio track record ('R' button) plus input ('I' button) for software monitoring in Logic?

I want to software monitor, which I have been doing recently without problems?

Yes both 'R' and 'I' are selected.

Activated?

I've just tried in preferences - 'Reset all preferences except key commands'. It worked!

Although I didn't want to reset prefs, I am still none the wiser as to what the problem was.

If anyone knows what was selected or deselected to stop the channel sending to the stereo output please let me know... thanks.

Activated?
Yes checked that too and it was selected.

It was something in preferences, but what?
