Ive spent hours trying to get OBS to produce the same sound quality that i hear in ableton and its not happening, it sounds like ass when i listen to it back and think its being heavily compressed somewhere, the bass is louder, the highs have artifacts and i cant figure out why. Ive tried recording in different formats, bit rates etc etc...

Is anyone using OBS or other screen caputre software and having great results? Im wanting perfect ( or as close as ) audio quality which im not getting with OBS and there is very little help out there regarding sound quality which is my main focus

Thanks

Just tried filmora screen recorder, its a lot better but still getting this boomy low end and overall poor quality compared to what im hearing in ableton

Use Melda Recorder (it's free) on the channel(s) you want to record in Live and then import your audio back into your video editor later.

I use this for screen video capture recording, you can use it to capture audio and video from the desktop, capture your webcam and has many options, capture / export AVI uncompressed / other formats as well as cutting and exporting sections of the film strip once recorded. There is a free trial for it, but it is commercial software so there is small cost for it of around £30, it's pretty solid and updates for it are quite regular.. whilst it's easy to use. There may be a sale / discount during black Friday in a few weeks... I tried alot of the free capture software varieties over the years but none I found were as good as this in doing what I wanted in screen capturing what I wanted offline like screens of VST instruments, hiding screen cursor options ect. https://www.movavi.com/screen-recorder- ... _menu#main

Manually syncing them takes literally seconds. It's a non issue tbh.

I'll check that one out, £30 is ok if its good quality

depends how much the video is cut and edited, not something id want to do on a hour+ long video if i dont have to

No, it's a few seconds and then it's done.

Scenario -

You hit record on OBS, your screen is recording.

You open up Melda Record and hit record, OBS captures this action.

Your audio file starts the split second you hit record on Melda Record. You line up your audio file with the video frame where record is clicked and now your audio file is synced. As long as you keep the audio and video files together they will always be synced. If you need to cut, then cut them both in the same place and they'll still be synced. If you want to move stuff around, move them around together...and they'll still be synced.

Yeah, I'm using OBS, but I don't record audio with it. I mean, digital is digital, but note if you are compressing to MP4 or whatever on-the-fly. Good MP4 compression requires CPU usage (if it's not offloaded to specific hardware) and there are compromises made when you're also using the CPU for your DAW. If you want top quality, record and compress the audio separately, then remux it to the video. Other people have explained that, I'm just explaining why OBS may have lower quality.

ive been trying to record audio and video seperate and been getting great quality results but theres something going on with the sync. Whenever the audio goes to silence for a few seconds it becomes out of sync with the video by a long way, but when the audio is playing at normal volume its perfectly in sync with the video. Anyone got a idea what would cause this?

Im using melda audio recorder, OBS screen recorder and Hitfilm video editor and cant work out which one is to blame

Ah yes you might be coming across a little bug with Melda Recorder. Instead of minimising the plugin, try just moving it to the bottom of the screen so it's out of the way, but still 'on screen'. Just have a pixel or two of the Melda UI visible, as long as it's still there.
