I bought a Roland TR-8S two months ago. As i started to learn the machine, i noticed that most of the factory kits are demo songs and not drum kits. Roland is trying to convince people that their latest drum machine is a groove box. Most of the kits have chord stabs, leads, basses and sounds that are totally unusable if you are searching for drum patterns. Frustrated by the lack of usable kits, i decided to make my own. I started sampling classic drum machines, drum synths, romplers, vstis and everything i could lay my hands on. After 2 months of work, the result are 23 kits + patterns.

The kits can be bought at Bandcamp and include:

I'm only chiming in to say I've got the TR-8 and love it - wish I could add sample packs to it. Also, your forum screen name... Does the "242" reference these guys?

Hi, I just grabbed this and im fairly confused, I see no kits to import, only patterns, the instructions say to follow the manual for how to import the kits but i see no reference to importing kits in the manual nor any kit files as seen in other examples, any help would be really appreciated.

Replied to your email :) the patterns contain the kits.

I don't think you are right or fair. Or whatever you are trying to imply here. You speak like Roland is trying to cheat or that we are like silly naive people not understanding what are we purchasing.

I understand you need to sell but your "introduction" is pretty off.

I also have TR8s and will purchase your pack but this is ridiculous.

What on earth are you talking about? We all know why TR8 is purchased for. And exactly that is there. You have 808 kit, 909 kit, and other vintage ROLAND drum kits from Roland machines right there.

Everything else (chords, stabs you mentioned) is added bonus and no it is far from being totally unusable.

It may be that for you but have a look on youtube and see how people are getting ton of awesome music with it.

Hell there are even ways of transposing inbuilt samples chromatically (it's a tedious but doable).

You are frustrated by the lack of kits??? There, right there are kits which defined genres across decades and continue to do so.

Every kit you made is actually not a Roland one. It is beyond my mind how did you expected to see non Roland kits from their competition inside one of their products? They never advertised TR8s as having those kits you made so why exactly you say that they are trying to convince people into buying something which is not there?

Anyway good luck with your stuff, but have some respect for other developers or companies on which groundwork you are trying to earn your money - next time you are selling something.

Peace

Well, saying that my post is ridiculous is not very nice of you, but it s your opinion and i will accept it.
Let s get some facts straight. I am not a company. I am just a guy who spent weeks sampling drum machines to make kits for the TR8S because when i was doing a song, and went to the roland drum machine to search for some beats to use in my song, all i could find were songs instead of beats. yes, songs, not drum beats but full songs as presets to impress possible buyers. Sure it has some patterns that are not songs and rely only on percussive sounds, but those are a small portion of the included kits. The majority are patterns with melodic content.
The same goes for elektron model samples and arturia spark. Model samples has only 6 samples tracks and most presets use chromatic sounds. it s a drum machine, for christ sake, make kits with drum sounds and stop trying to sell it as a do-it-all machine. Yes, these machines can play samples chromatically, but that s not what i want when i reach for a device labeled as a drum machine.

You havent changed my mind, but thanks for the input anyways.
