I'm a recent user of Squid's Tron Collection 1 (which of course, rocks).

So this is my first experience with SampleTank. It's a great sounding
engine with some nice effects, and its user interface seems okay for
most purposes.

But I think it could use some work with respect to patch management.
Probably the biggest improvement would be if the mouse scroll wheel
worked in the patch browser.

I did find in the manual the method of stepping through patches using
notes on the keyboard. I set the following in my ST2LEPref.txt file:

BrowseDown=21
BrowseLoad=22
BrowseUp=23

This makes the lowest three keys on my keyboard into Prev, Load and
Next.

That's pretty cool, and a nice workaround, but it means that when I
press the key for next patch, I also play a low A note at the same time.
Also, the function doesn't repeat, so you can't just hold down the key
to scroll through the list.

I guess the best solution for me would be if you could assign "next",
"prev" and "load" to keys on the computer keyboard, such as the up/down
arrow keys and the enter key.

Finally, how about supporting drag-and-drop? Kontakt does this, and it
works great. Basically, I use the file manager of my choice (Total
Commander) to find the patches I'm interested in. Then I drag the
patches to Kontakt, and the patches are loaded. With this system I can
avoid Kontakt's browser entirely, which is good, because Kontakt's
browser sucks. So drag and drop support for SampleTank would be a nice
addition.

Yes yes yes!!!

:roll: Man... we've been screaming for mousewheel support since version one. I think IK have banned wheel-mice in their development studios. :roll:

What is a mouse wheel? I'm not kidding. All I know about computers is how to use my music apps, web surfing and email, and installing ram and hard drives and changing motherboards. I only got a computer 18 months ago just for my studio and really don't know much else.

This is the first time I have heard of a mouse wheel. Is this related to the trackball type mouse? How will this technology improve the interface of Sampletank, or any other app? I'm always looking for ways to improve my efficiency in the studio. The only thing worse than ignorance is not asking, so I'm really asking.

Okay, I'll jump in and pretend you're serious. On a mouse for a PC you have the left and right button and most new mouse devices these days have a wheel in the middle of the 2 buttons. It is mostly used to scroll up and down. e.g. on a web page, word document and hopefully one day very soon the list of samples in sampletank. If you used Tracktion you can't do without it. The mouse wheel is used to control zoom in and out on the individual tracks among other things. The list goes on and on.

Thank you. I was very serious about my question, and you have answered it in a very helpful manner. My mouse doesn't have a wheel. I may look into this, it sounds handy.

Okay, obviously I should have asked this before I posted the first time, but is this the right forum to be posting bug reports, feature requests, etc. for sampletank? Do IK staff read these forums?

Is there a formal process I can go through and receive the coveted "your call is very important to us" message?
