Nice but of songwriting! I wasn’t too concerned about the mix at the start as this is a good song regardless of mix, but the mix has come along nicely.

Some really good use of the Bass VI (in fiesta red) on this too!

I have got TB Reelbus in the vocal chain for saturation/tape compression, but with levels set on other plug-ins it was doing knack all..

Sorted that out, a bit more bite on the DC83 main compressor, adjusted automation levels accordingly, cut a bit of high middle from the guitars (hopefully not too much it wimps them out..) ,and I think this is a better mix (same link). If not, think i'll leave it for a bit and revisit in a few days..the old perspective and that..

I have so much respect for people like DT who slave over mixes, getting every last bit of whatever out of them. Me? If it sounds good enough, it's good enough. Life is too short to spend that much time on one song. But God bless the people who do it. They are to be commended.

It's sounding a lot better from the first mix. If it were me, I'd experiment with bringing the vocal down a tad in the sections where the backing is much more bare. When the backing pipes up, it sits much better.

Having listened to it quite a few times, it's definitely a grower. Not that it wasn't good, first off. But with the familiarity of multiple listens it really comes together.

Dunno, each one is different to a certain extent; sometimes you get it right first time and make it worse by fiddling with it..other things need a bit more refinement. I could sort of tell this would be in the latter camp - it's relatively upbeat, with a lot going on.

The way I tend to see it is that if you've done all the hard work in writing, recording and arranging, then what's a bit of time spent twiddling the settings to get it to sound as good as you can? Automation in particular I find can much improve a song with better dynamics, make effects more interesting etc etc..so I do tend to spend a lot of time on it. Anyhow, each to their own!

I liked the original (I'm guessing the version on SC is the contest entry), but I listened to that when you first posted it (and on my cheap earbuds), so I can't really comment on the differences between that version and this version. Too much time has passed
