OMG. Just read this, gutted. Marc is an ace bloke, who has produced some truly gorgeous solo work - listen to his 'Enchanted' album and tell me that ANYONE does electro torch singer better - he is also a very much underrated lyricist, 'Death's Diary' is an outstanding Bosch-esque vision, I could go on, SOooooo much more than bloody 'Tainted Love', a great artist, with a veritable treasure Chest of undiscovered work.

On top of this, Marc's autobiog 'Tainted Life' remains in my opinion the best ever rock biog read. Believe me, I read 'em all!

Please ... get well Marc.

I agree - Marc Almond's work since those early Soft Cell days has been just outstanding. Every Soft Cell album was a gem - my favourite is This Last night in Sodom but there's not a bad one among them. I have every single one. But then his later work with Marc and the Mamba's is just perfect - one of the best albums ever. And his solo work like Mother Fist and that gorgeous Jacques Brel tribute (and the sublime Violent Silence) send tingles of pleasure down my spine. His voice has gone from strength to strength, he is a really great vocalist with such a rich, vibrant voice, and a true musical romantic poet. One of the few artists I know who can simultaneously challenge and shake conventions to their core and yet at the same time be capable of cherishing and respecting our musical history. I really hope he pulls through this.

My ex wife knew him back in the days before Soft Cell was well known - sadly when I met her she had lost touch but she got me into his music in a big way.

Thoughts are with Marc, i'd never had got into music if it hadn't been for bands like Soft Cell, Human League and that "if we can do it, so can you" attitude, last Soft Cell album barely charted when they reformed a few years ago, but it was one of their strongest in the pop feel that they dalied with, get well soon Marc.

what sad news :( .

huge fan since the soft cell days. i've long admired his scope, he sometimes reaches beyond and sometimes gets stick for doing so but his reasons are the right ones and always heartfelt. anyone who loves brel can never do wrong. an inspiration i'd say. a swift recovery.

I think it just means passenger on a motorcycle

nevermind

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=pillion

apparently it's the passenger seat behind the driver
I'm not sure we have a word for this in the states, at least I've never heard one in common usage.

Almond fans may wish to know that he appears extensively on the forthcoming new Current 93 cd (currently delayed due to the demise of World Serpent Distribution).
