Hi Markus,

is it possible that you keep OpenGL for users using macos below 10.15? Since openGL still works nicely with macos 10.13 or even 10.14, and I do no see any reason to update the os soon. I think Bitwig does the same strategy, openGL is enabled for older versions, so I assume it makes no difference in the notarization process... What do you think about it?

EDIT: Oh sorry to read your statement. I hope you did not get critics wrong by me or so...? I am no expert either. I hope you will recover soon and have fresh energy available then - and maybe a new perspective!

I wondered why you do not rejoin with your old refx collegues? You could join Avenger and Icarus together... :) Or release a v2.0 of quadrasid, vanguard and so on, supporting 4k screens and vst3. ok ok I stop!

Icarus2 will be the final synth that i will release. After whis one there will be only free updates and soundsets.

Our newer plugins come with a re-sizeable GUI.
Please note that none of our plugins uses OpenGL, which is tagged as deprecated by Apple. We use Cocoa for the GUI.
Currently there are no compatibility problems known and also should not appear in the near future. If there sould be problems i will of corse provide a free update.

I also want to say a big THANK YOU for all those who supported our team in the past an a big thanks for the understanding of my health situation

Absolutely No, that's a terrible bad idea, avenger is already messed up with that very disgusting new copy protection they are implementing (completely dependent to company) and now a lot of the old users are getting rid of their licenses in the market place (I would do the same if I had avenger).

Seriously, I prefer Markus and Tone2 completely independent all time than join that messed up company, long life Tone2.

Hm I actually find the new codemeter protection quite acceptable. You can fully do "offline" activation thru files, and it might not be the most efficent background system service, but it works well. The process though looks a lot confusing and non user friendly.

Post

With Tone2 you receive your product and your key file, that's it, no limited licenses, no "licenses managers", and no dependencies.

I think that Markus is already doing well without any of those disgusting hassles.

Sure, I prefer Tone2 way, too.

I don't understand the discussion about price for Icarus or the Upgrade from 1.6 to V 2.0.

At the time when I began with electronic music only few VSTis existed and these costed around 400-500 €/$ and hardware synths around 5000-15000 €/ $.
Beside this there is a lot of work in this Upgrade, it's nearly a new Synth with everything a wavetable synth can have and even more !!!
If a person doesn't has the money, it could save until it has it or wish it for cristmas present.
Icarus 2 is worth every penny and it's very cheap !!!

As you get a free upgrade to V2 if you buy Icarus now, and Icarus is currently very cheap in the sales (currently 95euro on AudioDeluxe) the issue that was raised is it is as expensive to upgrade as it is to buy it new. It’s a Black Friday timing issue!

I guess someone could buy it new to get V2 free and then sell their V1 licence, that would probably make the upgrade cheaper (if you only got 50E for V1.6 it will have only cost you 45E to get V2?)
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

:D
... $$$ vs $$$$ ........though.....
quite a few of them (the really craved ones) were in the hundred$ (vst's) absynth, alchemy, omnisphere + FX packs + Reaktor..

Hardware also in the hundreds, waldorf, JP's,... , ....
More affordable and new, Novation's.......
+ various pedals/racks + ex: eventides,...,.......

But.......
then what most people desired...
Moogs, DS, Virus, Nord's; [MS2000, TB303's and a bunch of other synths available only used and a bit out reach for most people] not 5k/15k but not ______________

**Also adding up this + that + other.... got escalated real quick

I remember there were a couple of old VSTi's which cost 200 - 250 €. Never saw one which costs 400 - 500 €. Instruments with massive sample libraries, or big feature set excluded, but, i don't consider that the "common population". I also wonder which hardware synths are meant. Most analog and digital synths weren't that expensive. Again, he/she can only mean the really big ones. Which pretty much reduces the argument to absurdity.

Just figure how many of hours of programming go into it considering all the free updates. Let's say it's 2 years of a full time programmer overall. Plus overhead, website, etc. If they sell 5000 licenses at $150 average price that's $750k sales, minus a few percent credit card fees. Then you have taxes taken out. So I dunno it doesn't seem unreasonable to me really. I think people just have unrealistic expectations.

The upgrade price for Icarus1 users is €79.

:tu:

Also, I am sorry to hear about your health issues and wish you all the best Markus.
