Hey all. I know this is highly subjective, but I am wondering what everyone thinks is the best piano sound SR has to offer. Squids, any personal favorite?
Thanks!

I'm interested in a new piano only refill as well as a reported 150 piano in Sonic Synth 2. Squids, is this accurate?
I would also love to hear squids discussion of pianos.

One of the best pianos we have is this 150+ version of the Yamaha C7. The refill has one that is over 200 megs. Sonik Synth 2 has one that is 150 megs. They differ in sound a little due to the particular sample choices in the multisample and the sound of the engines. But, both are 3 dynamics and nearly chromatic in certain areas.
There's also a Steinway we've been working on that is pretty awesome. It is a model D. Also, some of my favorite pianos are in the ST2XL sound set. There are a bunch, including the 1920's piano in there.
Additionally, I have a killer two dynamic upright that we're releasing soon on the Acoustic Piano Capsule
That along with another large version of the C7 and CFIII 9 foot Yamaha plus the Steinway all in one product.
The CFIII is cool because I recorded it on the soundstage of the "Scent of a Woman" scoring session. It was at the Hit Factory in New York years ago. A friend of mine was an engineer there with his own time where he was allowed to record whatever he wanted. That's how I get some of these great instruments sometimes. Opportunities like that which are priceless to me. Of course to YOU it may just be another piano patch. But, to me it is something captured that is rare and special.
Speaking of rare and special we're sampling this AWESOME player piano. It is so rediculously out of tune but it is PERFECT that way! In fact, I think I'll upload a clip of it play a song so you can hear how WACKY it is! Tacks and detuned. So, I love all different kinds of pianos.

I've been looking for a good C7 so I can play my Norah Jones songs.
So which product will have your best C7? I assume that the Acoustic Piano Capsule is different than the ST Piano Collection, right?

I've been saving for the piano refill and SS2. Now you drop info on this acoustic piano capsule. I have GAS! Will the acoustic piano capsule also contain the C7 instrument from the refill and SS2?
BTW, I was hoping that there was a story. You didn't disappoint.

I don't suppose you know where I can get a midi file of the piano in Come Away With Me?PaintedBlue wrote:I've been looking for a good C7 so I can play my Norah Jones songs.

Sorry, I don't at the moment. I bought the sheet music from amazon.com.
I can tell you that Come Away With Me uses the following chords for most of the song: C, Am7, C, Em, F(add9), C. That's pretty much it, and you should be able to come up with the melody pretty easily from there.

Being as I am a guitarist I seriously doubt it. I know C and Em on the keyboard. I'll be back when I figure out Fadd9 and Am7.PaintedBlue wrote:Sorry, I don't at the moment. I bought the sheet music from amazon.com.

Thanks for everyone's take. Good to know/bad to know there is no definitive answer.
How do the SR pianos stack up against a Yamaha P-80?

Remember that a digital piano is an all-in-one unit. It only plays it's piano sounds, but it is designed for those piano sounds.
I have an Roland RD-700 that I use for playing out and as a weighted controler in the studio. But I'm looking for better piano sounds for recording. Digital Pianos have pianos that are at most 64 bits (I'm sure there are exceptions), while sample-based pianos are bigger.
Does that help?

I still think the C7S piano in SS1 rules! I've got ST2XL on its way but that piano has never disappointed me! To my ears (again a subjective opinion - plus setting up next to drummers onstage for many years didn't help my hearing either) it beats any hardware or software piano I've ever heard! Just my two cents worth!
