However, my question to those out there for whom this is a big deal is this - can you point to any major developer for whom this has happened and users were left without their plugins? In the event of bankrupcy these assets tend to get sold on to another company who picks them up, don't they? Maybe there has been some horror stories, I just don't know of any personally.

One example that comes to mind is O-Deus ASIO Link Pro. The developer stopped responding to Emails at some point and it was no longer possible to buy it due to payment processing issues. This went on for about half a year or longer, any nobody knew what was going on. Later it came to light that he passed away. License holders could no longer authorize their software. A relative of his appeared in forums and implied that they were thinking about continuing the sale in some form, but it never happened. After a while, a few people reverse engineered/cracked it and made it publicly available, but it's no longer possible to use it as intended legit.

The iLok disaster that you mentioned was very memorable and it's one of the many reasons why I have been very mindful of copy protection when I make purchase decisions.

If your PC breaks down and you could not deactivate the license from where your container is, you lose the license. The only sure thing is to have the key and put the license there. You can buy Ilok or Steinberg keys in many places, but the keys of these people are impossible to find in Spain

Why you did not consider [...] CP like uhe does?

I've been telling him in the summer about it when he announced that he would change his copy protection for 1.5. He said that U-He's protection does not have an SDK or cannot be bought officially or something like that. U-He has been sharing his protection methods with other developers in a closed group and gives it out for free as far as I am aware. That would have been the best solution in my opinion. It's my favorite protection system because it actually works and completely hassle free for customers. But I also suppose it's not exactly a nice thing to walk up to your competitors and ask them for advice. It's saddening to read this thread now.

It has been asked multiple times already, nobody has given an answer yet.

This whole Codemeter thing seems to be quite a mess. A shame that this is necessary in the first place and certainly that legal users get hassled so much. But then again, I'd suggest everyone to stay calm and wait till the dust settles. Enjoy the weekend and give the developer room to breathe. I'm confident they'll sort things out and won't let people down in case of lost licenses etc.

That is very unfortunate. It's nice that I still have a working version on my machine but knowing that I will not be able to get this up and running on a new one in the future is a bummer. Please consider making it possible to stay on 1.4.10.

no its not impossible. Its a bit clicking, but if it works one time, then it stays working.
It will be a lot easier in the future however when the new VMAN is out

That is a great example, and I hadn't heard about it. I guess with 1 person operations this sort of tragic event is more likely than with bigger companies.

if I understand you right, then that´s a bummer
you Manuel told us after the bad warez-days, that those who want to stay on the old version could stay and the others can switch to 2.0 in the future
now you say there´s no possibility of downloading 1.4.10
it was clear the last days, that froday 1.5 would be released, but NOWHERE you told us, that we can´t download the then actual version after friday any longer!
please make both things still downloadable
maybe for a limited time if you need space back
